I would highly recommend anyone with some loose change use it to invest in any business in close proximity to Rams facilities that makes Margaritas.
He’s a senior analyst. Which makes a lot of sense.
Based on his background I assume he will being helping the QB and offense with film study.
He should be able to help Stafford break film down and prepare for games.
One day after the Shula thread on this sight, I assumed McVay went and got his new DC some help.
I remember reading once that other teams do spy on the Lions by lurking here in the den. So, I’m glad you cleared that up. Maybe.
I forgot what the scandal was that got Frost fired…
From my memory, his firing was GREATLY helped by very disappointing seasons at Nebraska. They just looked unprepared each week, and never really improved. I did not enjoy watching it; Nebraska has a great history.
@mojofilterx is right. Most of the reports were that Frost bascially was an egomaniac and walked around giving zero shits. There were lots of reports that he didn’t bother recruiting, in fact he is believed to be the reason that Dylan Raiola originally decided against Nebraska. He wanted to go there, Frost turned him off during the recruiting process and Raiola bounced around for a bit before ultimately deciding to go there. There were also a lot of reports he would show up late to his own team meetings, that he didn’t pay attention and all of these details were pretty evident during games. Frost had this same reputation at UCF for the record. He was just hailed as a returning hero when he was hired by Nebraska to return the program to glory, much in the same way that Harbaugh was for Michigan.
The other scandal you might be thinking of is from Frost’s playing days. If I remember it right, Frost was the one that was messing around with Lawrence Phillips girlfriend. Phillips basically caught the girlfriend in bed with Frost, and Frost went and hid in a bathroom. Phillips dragged the girlfriend out by the hair, and that’s what got Phillips suspended at Nebraska after his huge game against MSU.
Frost allegedly had a major drinking problem and was a serial philanderer. As the regime progressed that culture metastasized and The Nebraska Coaching staff supposedly resembled an out of hand frat. There was supposedly an apartment he had rented just above a bar frequented by the coaching staff which was available for the staff to indulge in their darker side. And yes, this did as you mentioned effect recruiting. Before Dylan has committed to OSU in the first place the Raiola’s were coming to Lincoln for an unofficial visit. I believe this was summer of 2021. Frost apparently decided it was more important to go boating and get smashed rather than be in town to meet the family. He supposedly called to speak with Raiola while intoxicated which of course did not go over well.
This is of course all rumor from various posters but many of which I’ve read on the Huskers Rivals board for two decades. I think I have at least some instinct as to which posters have seemingly been both grounded and well informed over the years. So all rumors but there is a ton of overlap and some are allegedly boosters and do seem to know developments within the program before they go public.
And remember Trev Alberts was able to get boosters to agree to pay $7.5m to fire him that would not have to have been paid had he waited until October which was two plus weeks away. For that to be the case there almost had to be some unsavory behavior going on.
after reading all of this the main question is how did he turn Central Florida from winless to undefeated in 2 years.
A couple things:
1:) prior to the gruesome leg injury McKenzie Milton was a special college Quarterback. Like almost on that Tebow/Tommy Frazier kind of trajectory
2:). That was before defenses had adjusted to Chip Kelly’s spaced out/horizontal stressing/fast break spread
3:). The talent he amassed quickly at CFU was by many moons better than their opponents on that janky schedule at the time
4:). It’s my understanding that the alleged behavior progressed dramatically in Lincoln as he was a huge fish in a small pond (very different than Orlando), was hitting his first patch of major adversity, etc.
Everything here is right from what I have read as well.
Frost coached under Chip Kelly and the Oregon offense. In their winless year, UCF basically mutinied under the previous coach, O’Leary, who was said to be very militant. When Frost took the job, his more laid back style was a welcomed change for the team and they responded to it. Since he coached under Chip Kelly, basically guys lined up to go play for him because they thought he was an offensive mastermind. McKenzie Milton went there because he wanted to play for the coach who coached Marcus Mariota. UCF played in a very weak conference, so any talent they had put them well in advance of most of the schools they played. However, you have to give credit where credit is due, they beat Auburn in their bowl game.
At that point, Nebraska basically rolled out the red carpet for Frost, and Frost took it as he had arrived. He was given a king’s welcome and even given a day in his honor. You can see now, this basically let Frost believe he could do no wrong and he was worshipped at every step. He went from carefree to irresponsible pretty damn fast.
Yes, I had also heard that there was some serious megalomania at play.
On a different note, I was just having a discussion with a friend about Norvell and how he also hasn’t seemed to pivot out of the batch of spread offensive concepts that were the rage a decade ago and helped him succeed under Graham and at Memphis. Even last year I felt that FSU offense at times underperformed his talent level.
Here’s hoping he takes it to an even greater level of prickster with the Rams.
I think FSU has major problems. It starts with bringing in DJU. That was a mistake, and I don’t get why people think that guy is a good player. He wasn’t good at Clemson. Fine, he had big shoes to fill, anyone after Trevor Lawrence was going to be a step back. He transferred to Oregon State, and he should have shined there against lesser competition. Except, he didn’t. He wasn’t even good. Then he transfers again and goes to Florida State, to replace a very good QB. Now it’s back to the same situation as Clemson, and he is nowhere near good enough to compete. Their offense has looked terrible with him, and during yesterday’s game he missed so many throws that any college QB should make, and I’d say I expect a HS to make that throw to the corner of the end zone with no pressure, and a WR standing by himself in the corner. It wasn’t even close!
FSU has a lot of problems since losing a number of players to the NFL, their Dline got abused 2 weeks in a row. I thought FSU was wildly overrated at 10. I picked Georgia Tech to win that game, but figured surely FSU would still out talent Boston College. Boston College crushed FSU, and in FSU’s home opener! That was a complete embarassment of a loss. That home opener with the fans hitting the exits, reminded me of the 2017 Lions home opener that ended with J-E-T-S Jets chants.
Watching that team break down and resort to cheap play showed it’s a leadership issue. That team is a mess, and the coaches have a real problem on their hand. I don’t know who they have at QB behind DJ, but they’ve got to figure something out quick because that team has lost faith and hope 2 games into the season.
He totally fooled me with that four game stretch in 2022. I stumped for him and people mocked me and they were right. He then fell apart against Syracuse got benched and never got his mojo back. Often times when guys with talent take their lumps (2021) and then they emerge out of it they are off to the races. I thought I saw that at the ground floor but turns out I was wishcasting.
Then I watched him a ton at OSU for obvious reasons. I trust Smith with QBs so I was hopeful. But decision making was still spotty and mechanics were all over the place.
