Sean McVay takes partial blame Jared Goff's decline with Rams: 'I could have...
"There are certainly some moments that I know I could have done better really for our team and for Jared in particular.”
I don’t have a problem with a writer having his own spin on our offseason, but this one is just too close-minded.
It’s almost solely because he’s not a fan of Goff, and I get it, that was our biggest decision it will probably affect us to a greater degree than any other we made. If we got it wrong it could hurt. But this is where his personal bias comes into play. Rather than saying IF it doesn’t work out, he assumes it won’t. That approach tends to make writers look like fools in the end.
At this point this guy is playing the role of fool very well. Calling him a fool might be a compliment.
Writer logic
Lions bad offseason bad because goff is overpaid and not a true top 10 qb. (Even tho hes played at a top 10 level for the last 2.5 seasons)
Jaguars good offseason because they have a franchise qb they paid and has the POTENTIAL to be a top 5 qb. But has played as a bottom 10 qb the last 2 seasons.
I00% with you. There have been other peers of his and fans respectfully disagreeing and bringing information to support their points ans his response has been “yea thanks for your comment, but yeah your wrong, Goff sucks, and that imaginary franchise altering qb is put there and the lions cant get him now” kinda condescending. Who died and made you the expert on Jared Goff.
Personally, think this is a great example of why you have to pick and choose what Goff arguement to run with. Is he a top 5 qb? Too many opinions and angles to go at to detract from that. Can you win a super bowl and be a super bowl contending team for half a decade or longer with Jared Goff? Absolutely, and i challenge anyone to say differently.
From a money perspective, it’s already looking better and it’s only been a month, with the Lawrence contract and all. Prescott, tua, and the like still need to be paid.

I truly don’t get the Goff hate…think its just misplaced Lions hate, projected onto him. Goff has been to one Superbowl and was a few plays away from playing in a second…that is much more of a resume then Dak and Lawrence have and even Hurts has.
So if they are not “issues” for their teams, why is Goff a hinderance to ours? People can have their takes but I really wish some common-sense was required to publish it.
I think it’s 90% priors based on his Rams days. It’s hard to get people off their priors. I was guilty as well.
I am so sick of the Goff bashing.
I want that dude to run off 3 of 4 Super Bowls and watch all these turds eat it. And then get a couple more so he sits at 5 and everyone then does not know what to do because he now fringing on TB12 numbers.
Somehow I want it for him and this team and players more than I want it for myself. But do not get it twisted. I want the Lions to win it all for my own happiness also.
The lack of critical think is omnipresent in all kinds of reporting on a variety of topics. In fact, logic and critical thinking are probably discouraged by editors so as to elicit clicks, likes, and traction when targeting a particular siloed audience.
Most nowadays don’t have the ability or freedom of mind to change thier opinions objectively….
more off-season media spin blather, I can wipe my tush and get something better- The Detroit Lions have every bit of a chance to be THE KINGS OF THE NORTH and to obtain a BOWL lol bottom ten offseason what is this dude drinking !?
I view his logic as. Goff sucks because he’s not a top 10 QB and the Lions overpaid for his services. Even though his numbers are top 10, and he’s lead a top 10 offense …. that success is in spite of Goff and only because of Ben Johnson. He believes that when Ben leaves Goff will suck and prove he is right.
But Goff has proven to be top 10 QB on two teams and under multiple Offensive Coordinator’s…… so his logic is very flawed.
Ultimately this comes down to his belief in Goff and nothing more. This is called belief perseverance and confirmation bias.
Exactly right. People post these articles on the den and other social media platforms, then we all make fun of the terrible takes. But guess what any attention is good attention. In the end the link was shared. So yes we might get a few laughs insulting the author but who is really winning here?

Agree.
The part that many of the Goff critics don’t mention or possibly didn’t notice… is that multiple people in the Lions building spoke about Goff having a significant role in working WITH Ben Johnson…
to make sure they incorporated concepts that Goff felt comfortable executing.
Ben has had an impressive role as a play caller, but I think Goff’s input has probably helped the Lions offense more than some of the “critics” realize.
In addition…. McVay publicly acknowledged that he was part of the problem when the Rams offense took a step back.
Some of the Goff critics simply looked at the stats,
and concluded that all of the turnovers were Goff’s “fault”…
without factoring in the struggles of their O-line and lack of an effective running game…. combined with some play calling that wasn’t McVay’s best.

There is an environment set by Dan and Ben that has helped Goff emerge from a very low point in his career.
There is absolutely a lot catering to what he does well or, in other words, listening to his input.
Bottom line on Goff is McVay botched it. Stafford becoming available bailed him out.
In the end, I like Goff’s chances to win a Superbowl without Johnson a lot better than McVay’s chances of winning a SB without Stafford. What’s been established by Ben and Jared in the passing game, along with Dan’s absolute commitment to trench warfare and the run game, enables the team to survive an OC change.
Bottom line on Goff is McVay botched it.
He sure did. McVay literally sat Goff in a playoff game to play some dude I can’t even remember his name. The dude got knocked the ■■■■ out early and Goff came in and won the game.
Wolford got the start over Goff. Goff was benched for a guy with 1 career td pass and 5 ints

He has failed me for the last time.
I’m cool with Jared Goff not being a top-10 QB.
S’long as he continues to play like one.
Whenever you see ‘ESPN and Lions’, just know it won’t be very logical!
