It is not that easy.
Trey is not available to sign.
He is on the roster of the Bengals.
The Bengals are unable to sign him and no other team in the NFL has been able to trade for and sign Trey.
It ain’t that easy.
Holmes is showing commitment to Lions before other players on other teams.
Holmes has to get Ratledge signed and, though both are under contract, get issues resolved with AA and Hutch.
I think Trey is great at putting QB’s on the ground, but his run defense is not good. This alone makes his signing unlikely. The fact that he isn’t good at run defense and will cost a metric crap ton, makes it a non-starter in BH’s book. Now if it’s me cutting the check… I’ve got no problem with it, because we have TONS of guys who can stop the run and like ONE guy who puts QBs on the ground. So I’d be totally fine sacrificing run D in a dynamic EDGE who gets a ton of sacks and pressures. But I’m not BH and if the 15 NT’s and 1st Round MLB on the roster doesn’t tell you the tale, then ya can’t read!
No, that’s the point. Still could I guess, they could have some limited rush plays for him.
But him not being here at the start of camp really makes me think it’s not happening and that’s odd considering all the Detroit apparel/comments that he’s made.
Was listening to the athletic podcast and they have a “Clowney rule” for when older vets sign, usually 1 year deals… He always signs with a team mid August. So Z still has 3 weeks before I write that signing off
I am under the belief that the Lions and Smith have an agreement that they will touch base after week 1 of the season. He is just looking to get the ring and that means the Lions do not have to pay for a full season. Win Win IMO.
I am expecting to see him on the field in early October at the earliest.
Well you know our top 3 pass rushers last year in Hutch, Davenport and Barnes played like 9 games combined. Pretty ballsy of Holmes to think these guys were all gonna stay healthy this year. I think as soon as camps over Zadarius signs. Brad can’t go back into the season without a little more proven pass rush.
