Kenneth Murray was co-Defensive Freshman of the Year in the Big XII, thriving in coverage for the Sooners. He broke an Oklahoma record for tackles in a game with 28. Murray has excellent instincts and has great speed and athleticism for coverage.

The Lions have become shaky at safety after trading Quandre Diggs. Tracy Walker can’t stay healthy, and both Tavon Wilson and Miles Killebrew are pending free agents. Delpit flies round the field, stopping the run like an extra linebacker and making big plays on the ball while working inside in downfield coverage. He plays like the Chargers’ Derwin James with tremendous hybrid size (6-3, 203 pounds) for the position.

A wide receiver with generational talent has to be the pick. Matthew Stafford was signed to a big contract because of his production on offense despite sensational talent. Jeudy will be the most talented receiver that Stafford has played with since Calvin Johnson. This just might get them over that playoff hump.

Chase Young gets all the attention in the Big Ten and the 2020 NFL Draft class at the defensive end position. But A.J. Epenesa has the potential to be a great edge rusher at the next level as well. Matt Patricia brought over Trey Flowers to the Lions with him, but Detroit could use another dominant force on the edge.

The Lions have a total of 24 sacks in their 12 games on the season. While that isn’t an awful number, I’m sure Patricia would love to see that number go up next year. Epenesa would undoubtedly help that cause.

Epenesa is a physical freak at 6-foot-6, 280 lbs. While a little more raw of a prospect than Young, Epenesa has come through with pretty solid production in his time at Iowa. He now has nine sacks on the season and may be able to exceed his total of 10.5 from a year ago. He fits well as a 4-3 defensive end and has prototypical size with good bend that you like to see in a rusher.

The Lions defense has struggled mightily at times this season, and with a defensive-minded head coach, I’m sure they will address that side of the ball early and often in the 2020 NFL Draft. Epenesa may be a bit of a project in terms of reaching his full potential, but I’m sure that is a challenge that Patricia would love to take on in hopes of him developing into one of the best defensive ends in the league.

I’m 100% on-board with either Young or Epenesa. I’ve seen more of Young than I have of Epenesa. Both look mean and we desperately need a edge rusher!!

Quinn may end up taking one of the OT out of Georgia or Iowa…you guys know he never takes who you want.

Epenesa is really a terrific match for our scheme. The type of edge that MP would love. At the same time he’s versitile enough to fit other schemes if MP gets canned after ‘20.

My guess is Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State.

Draft Okudah, which in their minds makes Slay expendable. Then trade Slay at trade deadline.

Then have the masses on here celebrating these moves and high-fiving over the 3rd round pick we got for Slay.

When in reality, it’s a Net Result of “zero improvement” for the team overall.

I like Derrick Brown too. A disrupter that can penetrate the pocket from the interior would IMHO be a very good thing for our defense. Wouldn’t bitch though if they took the LB or Edge rusher though. Don’t want an OT or Safety in the 1st round unless maybe the Lions trade down.

I really prefer to get this pressure the QB thing fixed, so I want nasty DT first, Edge 2nd. I feel like LB would be least benefit, in terms of one guy helping everyone else get better. I’m remembering how much better our D looked the second Snacks stepped into the picture, and thinking of that.

I like DTs. We will have 20 million to spend on FAs too, and that could give us some draft versatility.

I don’t like drafting another DT. This defense needs rushers from multiple angles and sides and we don’t have that, we have Flowers and that’s it.
Think about the Steelers 3-4 with Harrison, LeVon Kirkland, Joey Porter, and Jason Gildon types.
They’re all LB’s and pass-rushers that can be sent from anywhere on the field. That’s what we need.
We need that 2nd really good pass-rusher from the other side.

Because it’s simply factors the number of players technically under contract for next year and does not factor in the ones whose contracts end this year. so any current player, for example, that they re-sign would reduce that figure just like any other free agent from another team

This is why I’ve figured all along since the time Quinn stashed 20m, they were planning on a big push in 2020… 5k in dead money

I would expect the lions to be able to resign or sign 5-6 good starters, maybe including jadaveon Clowney

I totally get this line of thinking. We were using Keanrd quite effectively for the first few games, then a massive drop-off. They send Davis and Tavai on occasion, as well.

I feel like the DT keeps them clean and helps them get home.

Honestly, I come from the mindset that Quinn knows better than me, and I trust him more than me. I love when you guys post, because in all honesty, I learn WAY more than I teach, especially when you guys start talking about college dudes/draft time.

Okudah is a terrific prospect. Wouldn’t hate it but I really want to get an elite pass rusher in round 1 if possible.

Snag some of our current dudes as backups - that’s a can of whoop ass that nobody in the division wants to see us bring.
