2020 Detroit Lions 1st Round Mock Draft

Watching the RBs from other teams really makes me want a guy with breakaway speed too. I have wanted a RB since Best got hurt.

Derrick Brown please. Give me that disruption in the middle

Hamilcar Rashed of Oregon State if he declares would be an interesting addition. Totally different type of edge rusher than anything we have. Donā€™t know if heā€™d even make it to round 2 though

A little trade back wouldnā€™t be a bad thing. Get an extra 2nd or 3rd. Maybe even move back up in the 1st.

Even at 48 million in cap space thatā€™s still below league average.

So letā€™s remember that before we get too excited.

Given the fact I think Stafford is coming back and we win a few games, I think the kid from Auburn will be our pick.

I think they throw Preston Smith money at Judon and this board freaks out because him and his 8 sacks are the only ā€œpass rusherā€ we add this offseason

Wow! Isnā€™t that like 20% of the total cap?
Insane

I think it is based of a projected 196 million cap.

Also its 17th in the NFL before cuts and what not so we could make more room and other teams can too.

cap space this time of year can be very misleading especially when comparing one team to another because teams can vary wildly as to how many players contracts are expiring during any given year versus the following year and whether key high profile and high salary cap percentage players need to be re-signed and so on.

IMO, drafting the Top CB Okudah, trumps DE Epenesa or DT Brown. Okudah blanketed Michā€™s WR Nico Collins in the GAME, is very past, tall and has an Attitude!!.. Learning/Playing with Slay would be a huge upgrade in the Secondary. Granted, Okudah would not be All-World in his 1st season in the NFL, however, I would expect his transition to the NFL would be faster than most. The Lions inability to rush the passer effectively are well documented. Injuries have wracked the Defensive Line, continuity non-existant. All the more reason to have an adequate Secondary giving the DL 1-2 more seconds to pressure the QB. Stud CBā€™s are very prized by teams and rarely, are available on the open market. Then, youā€™re looking at $13-$18M very soon.

Additionally, it allows Quinn flexibility in deciding what to do with Slay. Itā€™s arguable 2020 is Slayā€™s last year as a Lion. He wants a Max contract, period. Let another team pay him. His 2019 production is nothing to write home about, IMO. If Quinn got a mid-late #2 in the 2020 Draft, Iā€™d seriously think about it, today. Lions would get more players & salary Cap relief to re-sign/extend (Golladay? Jones? Glascow? Decker?), etc. More flexibility the better at Draft Time. DE Bryant needs time to develop. Taking the No.1 CB, (If available), is GOLD!!..It doesnā€™t prevent the Lions from drafting a stud DT or DE in the #2, or both should Slay be traded in the above scenario.

From the little of the game I was able to catch I saw 2 plays in which he got away with hitting the receiver before the ball had gotten there. Not going to fly in a lions uniform. Would have to go watch the tape to see if thatā€™s a regular part of his game. But I wasnā€™t all that impressed with that very small sample size. Maybe Green Bay or some
other place where youā€™re able to do things like that.

Chase young of course is #1 on the list.

DT Derrick Brown runs fast for his size. He gets doubled a lot but when heā€™s not, he is very disruptive.

I would also be happy with Delpit or Okudah.

I do like Epenesa but I think we need an explosive quick twitch/explosive DE/OLB on the edge. Epenesa can play anywhere on the line though.

We could always get OLB/DE Julian Okwara, Romeo Okwaraā€™s brother from Notre Dame later in the draft.

Keep an eye out for Yetur Gross-Matos. He could shoot up the board. Big motor sneaky good.

Alton Robinson from Syracuse is another pass rusher to keep an eye on. He has good size, speed, and burst off the line.

A high first round pick is likely an impact player for the DL based on our current team. Young, Brown, Espenesa all fit the bill. When you are talking about high in the first round you want to get an impact talent at a position hard to fill elsewhere. DL, OT, QB are the hardest to find later in the draft and our team doesnā€™t need a QB, OT would be a plus, but impact Dllineman is absolutely necessary. Improvement at LB, CB and RB are necessary but can be had later in the draft.

Would be fine with 3 of those 5. I would never take a WR in the top 10 and no thanks on Okudah. I havenā€™t seen a college CB grab more than he does. What he does for a living in college is a no-go in the pros. He basically assaults WRs at OSU. He is not a lock down type of dude, more of a grabber.

Iā€™m not a fan of taking offense again but Jeudy is a sick WR prospect. Also, watching his highlights illustrates how good a QB Tua is. Crazy accurate downfield passes hitting Jeudy in stride. Shame the kid got hurt

My favorite pick as of now is D Brown. We need to get pressure from the middle again. Watching his highlight video is like watching a mashup of Suh and Fairley. He brings the nimbleness of Fairley for a big man and the power and nastiness of Suh

Oh, I like Jeudy as well. He has the potential to be elite in the NFL, but as we all know, we had an elite WR here recently that we spent a high pick on. He put up a ton of cool stats, but we didnā€™t win football games. If you have a team built for defense and stopping the run, then WRs become a luxury. Iā€™d rather throw a 3 year deal at AJ Green in the offseason if we feel we need help at WR. We need to upgrade both OTs and the defensive line thru the draft in my eyes.

Agree. Dline and LB are our biggest needs

Fun to watch. What a wingspan that guy has!

Brown sets up camp in the opponents backfield. Seems like in every play, heā€™s 2-4 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

RE: Espenesa:

Only 9 sacks in a college season his draft year? Iā€™d be hoping for 15-17 sacks for a top 5 pick and Epenesa reportedly had a poor start to the season. he was an average player (4.5 sacks) for the first 8 games and then had 3 good games to finish the season (4.5 sacks).

That kind of production in the Big 10 is not exactly what youā€™d expect from a top 5 player.
Chase Winovich was a better prospect and he was drafted in the 3rd round.
