Actually very OK with that, wonder how much Golladay will want on a “prove it” deal?

Hopefully he finds his way out to LA. I’m not interested here at all.
Golladay is to Stafford what Reynolds is to Goff, IMO.

Waiting to see how he does in the playoffs, that catch for the TD last week was insane.

I could see Chark going either way. Brad is disposed toward re-signing his own player, yet Chark, as one of the few premium UFA WRs and knowing that at 27 this could be THE payday of his career, could reasonably jump to the highest bidder. How much is a great work environment worth? $6M over 3 years? $10M?

I think Brad is content signing bargain FAs (which tend not to be first day signings) and playing the compensatory pick game. Brad has options. We’ll see.

Chark does seem like the “type” of player that BH/MCDC are looking for, but at the same time, this is a very weak UFA WR market and that may be why he took a “prove it” contract with Detroit.

You are right, it could go either way.

Chark will probably get 4yr 45 mill ?

Man if they could get Chark back for like 6-8 mil a year I would totally do that. Once he got back to playing confidently he was an asset for us.

For the player, figure taxes take half, say he could get 12 somewhere else so that’s 6 a year, or say we sign for 8 that’s 4 a year… 2 mil difference… you’re already a millionaire, is a good work environment worth 2 mil? In a league like the nfl I’d say so… but it’s not my money either!

I’d even be ok with that I think… we have Jamo on the cheap for 3-4 more years

If that Chark number gets in that 12-15 range which is likely, I’d prefer to use the cash to get Payne (rather than draft a guy like Bresee), then draft Quentin Johnston who is being compared to Julio Jones at WR with pick six.

We upgrade the DT position and WR position and have two guys who don’t have the injury history of Bresee and Chark for close to the same money.

He didn’t say anyone told him that, but did say the majority wanted to come back. He probably didn’t hear that from AO, maybe ABryant, with Houston’s emergence.

Not paywalled!

This makes a lot of sense.
AO flat bombed this season and is likely looking for a change of scenery after thinking he was headed for a big payday a year ago. Bryant wasn’t active in the final 5 games, nor did he appear on the injury reports.

What do you guys feel about giving Devin Bush a prove it deal here? The Steelers declined his option and most his career was eaten up by an ACL injury.

He only missed 2% of tackles in 2022 and recently tweeted something to the effect of wanting to play for an ex-player coach

Would rather give a prove it deal to a “once was” vs a “never was”, (see Davis).

Tyrell Crosby texted Holmes and said not to even think about signing him

then followed it up later with, ‘can we talk?’ and then a few minutes later, ‘are you mad at me?’

I’m not sure on the exact guys, but I love the philosophy and have been preaching a similar strategy.

I think it’s really this simple- get our guys in the war room, give Holmes the whiteboard and a marker….

  1. “Guys which positions are our highest risk for regression?
“ RB- without Swaggy…. WR- without Chark… RG- without V or Brown…. DT- without Buggs… Safety- without Elliott…. CB- without Hughes and W Harris…. LB- without AA…. Edge- without Commish
  • my personal answers……

A) RB- without Swaggy we are an inevitable injury to Swift from practice squad players…

B) RG- if we part ways with Big V, and let Brown walk, then we are at street level replacements.

C) S- without Elliott we are relying 100% on Walker being back…

D) DT- without Buggs, we currently be looking at Benito Jones as a starter?

E) LB- I’d say a more experienced pair in Barnes and Rodrigo wouldn’t be too much fall off without Anzalone…

F) WR- I’d say with Jamo stepping up, and Raymond and Reynolds still here, we’d at least have a decent to solid WR1-4…

G) Edge- even with Commish- the combo of Paschal and Okwara along with Hutch and Houston could be 20-24 sacks….

  1. So which of these “letters” can be addressed the easiest, and cheapest? Off the top of my head… giving 2 of our GLUE GUYS new deals is where I’d start. 1)- Swaggy 3 years 13M with 7M guaranteed… and 2)- Buggs at 3 years 10M with 5M guaranteed…… both would cost us 6M combined next year and ensure we don’t got BACKWARDS at DT and RB… really cheap insurance and great leadership, and depth… one might even argue that AA could provide another cheap insurance policy against regression… I’d offer 3 years and 6.5M with 4M guaranteed- if he takes it- great, if not- Holmes will find another 1 year prove it LB

  1. This is the tough spot…. Chark, Elliott, Commish, and Evan Brown…. Many expect them to see numbers like this……

Chark- 3 yrs 39M
Brown- 3 years 25am
Commish- 2 years 15M
Elliott- 3 years 24M

  • that’s 36M APY combined- and we just found and paid them 14M combined on 1 year deals.

  • all these deals are scary as they are shorter in nature, as none are truly elite “gets” but high enough in APY to hamper the salary cap from day one (without a ton of voided year money).

  • I’m not against any of them individually, but here are my concerns….

A) Chark is a big investment who is likely to battle injuries throughout the deal….
B) Brown was the weak link, and I don’t want him as a weekly starter, so I can’t pay him as one.
C) Commish is a big part of what we want to do on D, but could his 550 snaps go to Romeo and Paschal? We have Paschal, Romeo, and Houston who only got 500 combined snaps for 12 sacks and 18 QB hits. I would think they will want Paschal and Houston on the field a lot more, and only slightly reduce Hutch’s snaps
D) if Elliott took 2 years and 9-10M I’d bring him back. I’m not paying a guy to be a sure starter for 2-3, when I don’t think he is.

All time great scene

I’d like that….

If we cut Brockers, Big V, and Romeo… saved 24M- and signed Swaggy, Buggs, Elliott, AA, Commish and Brown…. Many would celebrate us “staying the course”.

We’d still be watching W Harris, Hughes, Chark, and potentially Romeo leave….

Let’s say-

  1. C Gonzalez
  2. T Simpson
  3. Keion White
  4. AT Perry
  5. K Benton
  6. T Spears
  7. DTR
  8. J Moody

A draft like this will replace Chark with 6’5” TD machine Perry in round 2…. We get an interior rush specialist in White, a stout run defender in Benton, an elite athlete at LB and the top CB in the draft….

Hutch/Houston
White/Buggs
McNeill/Benton
Commish/Paschal

T Simpson/Barnes
Rodrigo/Anzalone

Gonzalez
Okudah/Jacobs

Elliott/Walker
Joseph/Walker

Offense-

Goff

Swaggy/Swift/Spears

Jamo/ASB/AT Perry/Raymond/Reynolds/TK

Decker/Jackson/Ragnow/E Brown/Sewell

Wright/Mitchell

Brown isn’t coming back….he is a starting caliber center and an average guard. He is gonna get paid to play center and really won’t be back.

Simpson is not a good fit for what the lions do at all.

Moody will be gone long before the 6th. Hell, I have see. As high as 3rd round.

After spears performance at the senior bowl he is gonna move up, unfortunately bc he is good. Really good.
