2023 Impending Free Agents

  • The Exclusive Rights Free Agents (ERFA) will be back, they have no choice but to sign. They will at least get a chance to compete
  • Our Restricted Free Agents (RFA) will likely not see a tender ($2,629,000 minimum), but all could come back at or near minimum salaries
  • Most of our UFA’s will get figures based off their 2022 salaries. Some have earned more. I think Elliott and Cominsky will get significantly more. Anzalone, Buggs, Williams, Justin Jackson, Nate Sudfeld, CJ Moore and Chark a little more. Not sure on Will Harris or Austin Bryant. Others IMO, should be similar to 2022 compensation

The 2nd column is my guess at compensation, the 3rd column is overthecap.com valuation on the players. They incorporate a formula that uses PFF data that compares it to data of other free agent signings and contracts that those players received. They have AA at almost $12M and Chark under $4.5. I think both are wildly off, but the others are reasonable.

Ballparky $18m increase to bring back all 18 of the UFAs

Maybe half come back…maybe.

Pick 9 to lose.

AO Harris Bryant

Then it gets iiinteresting

It is going to be interesting to see who the Lions bring back and who they let hit FA.

I think we’ll definitely bring back the special teams aces. I’m thinking more like 3/4 of our UFA’s will be back. We brought back a bunch last year (to the chagrin of many here).

Moore and one of the LB for sure stay. Is there roster space going forward for 2 LB ST only guys?.maybe.

They dont really save a lot of money on some of these guys being bounced because the replacement cost is the same…or higher!

It’s the bigger choices on Rokwara/Big V/ Chark/Commish/$StoreThor /Brown that will be the savings or signal we wont be big splashy spendsrs on outside UFA

I am glad it is getting harder to do this exercise.

If we cut Brockers/Vaitai/Romeo, I think we will re-sign the bulk of our UFA’s (including Swaggy, Cominsky, Elliott, Alex) and have at least $35M APY to spend on players. So if we keep Vaitai, that would be $9.5M, Romeo $12.3M, Chark $12M?? . . . so divey it up however people like.

That’s my initial thoughts on spending, based on prior two years. Need to double check my figures later this week.

Do you think julian could be a cap casuality

We save 1.2 mill

I know he has a year left but hes been below par for a 3rd rounder

We may go from having all the Okwaras to none

Brad Holmes is doing his end of year conference right now…

Just said him and Agnew have met with all the guys coming up on expiring contracts and the majority of them expressed interest in coming back. Said there’s more to it than that but it was encouraging to hear

Our rookie pool is gonna be like 10 mil right?

Also , as much as I like CHARLES HARRIS he’s only good in a 3-4 as a SOLB

Trade him for a 6th rounder to a team like Denver or Jets. He would save 4-5 mil there too . Besides Houston beat him out for sure.

Julian and Bryant on a 1 year minimum can battle it out for backup spots.

Definitely not a cap causality, doesn’t make enough. $1.2M is cheap for a situational player, but he needs to be healthy. Will be competing for a roster spot. If he gets cut, I think it’ll be final cuts in September.

And as Weasel says may go from all to none Okwaras

For me, I am hoping that Williams and Buggs are back. Those two are well above the rest. Anyone else not brought back wouldn’t bother me too much.

According to overthecap.com, $14.3M, but the cap hits to fit under top 51 will be $8.3.

Definitely an option. Listening to BH’s press conference, sounded like he wanted to keep him, but like most press conference said a lot without really saying anything.

Julian’s under contract for 2023 @ $1.3M

I wonder which free agents told Holmes they didn’t want to come back. Chark, maybe?

It might have been Evan Brown. He probably wants to be a starting center somewhere.

I would agree with Chark being the most likely to say that he has to test the market. There’s a lot of money tossed around out there on WRs and he might have enough healthy tape this year to get a bump.
