Jamo was a trade up.
My personal preference is to let it come to you or trade back like we did in 23. It’s no coincidence, IMO, that 23 is the best draft they’ve had.
Even the Jamo trade up wasn’t that great. Especially when you consider the guys that would have been available with our 2 picks. Could have had George Pickens and another good player like Kenneth Walker. Jalen Pitre, Breece Hall, Kyler Gordon, etc. Also, since he was injured, then suspended, and young and immature.. we basically only got 1 season of production before we paid him like an elite wideout.. which he isn’t. So the value for the cost was not great.
Cool traded AWAY Swift and Hock. Good moves.
But what about adding?
DPJ? Trash.
Zadaius? He only did it out of necessity.
Then what? A few day 3 trades.
What does EVERY superbowl team do? They make trades to get DUDES. Brad hasnt done that ever. And with the depleted capital he has now because he traded away all the capital for his pet projects in Manu Teslaa etc they have no ability to get anything.
No draft capital. No salary cap space.
Unless he trades away someone currently on the roster for capital then turns around and trades that? But thats a lateral move.
Absolutely agree. I still like the fact that Brad and Dan have a “type” they want to go get, and I don’t think that should (or will) change. But I do think we need to be more selective with trading away assets for trade ups. Give Brad more bites at the apple and I think we can uncover more hidden gems like St Brown, Rodrigo and Mohogs. Hard to do that when you package these picks for someone who is a miss. It really hurts our depth, and we’re currently seeing/living that right now. I think if we simply learn that lesson and adjust there, that alone puts us in a much better place moving forward.
My point still stands with multiple other good options at wr. But also.. if we didn’t take jamo off our board for being crazy immature then I’m not sure we would have taken pickens off either.
The Chiefs did add Kadarius Toney in 2022… who had the 6th most receiving yards (171) amongst WRs for the Chiefs in 2022…. when Mahomes threw for 5250 yards. Wow… big move.
The 2020 Bucs didn’t make any deadline deals.
.
Outside of the Von Miller trade to the Rams… what Super team in recent years truly benefited from a deadline trade?
2019 Chiefs? nope.
2018 Patriots? nope.
I remember the Eagles landed Ajayi in 2017. The 2nd best addition in the past 8 years… and they had a RB by committee.
