Although, if by some miracle Bowers fell it would be tough to pass (despite having a bit of an injury history). Imagine he and Laporta on the field at the same time?
@CuriousHusker and I were talking about that earlier. Bowers could be a true H-Back, FB, RB, in line guy, he would make our offense truly impossible to stop.
Alas there’s almost no way he falls to us, so it would definitely require a trade up. And as CH pointed out it’s highly likely he or Sam would only be one contract players for us, and that’s probably not the best way to use our resources.
Oh yeah we’ve talked about those guys ad nauseam over in the draft thread, and throw in Kingsley and Fautanu as well. I personally hope if we go OL it’s with a OT/OG hybrid, but others prefer to go the OC route.
And all of the mocks of late have us taking Robinson, so he wouldn’t be too much of a surprise. I’m against it personally for reasons I’ve mentioned multiple times elsewhere, but if Brad drafts him I’ll come around. (Jones had about 25 pounds on him as a prospect and was never an edge like Robinson. My personal comp for him is Jihad Ward).
Other guys I could see Brad falling for who would probably surprise everyone: Troy Franklin, Brian Thomas Jr., Legette, McCarthy, Amegadjie, Kneeland, Booker, Tampa, Lassiter, Cam Hart, and I’m sure there’s more. I wouldn’t bet on any of them, but I wouldn’t be shocked either.
Eh, I could see him dropping beyond that. GMs constantly overthink non-prototypical prospects at lower value positions, like Branch last year. Bowers will probably check in at 6’3, 240, but from everything I hear he played much lighter than that. His arms aren’t likely to be very long either. The h/w/s guys like Ballard and Baalke are probably lower on him than their respective fanbases want them to be.
That said I think his absolute floor is Cincy, and I suspect someone like Miami would trade up for him before that.
Brian Thomas Jr at 29 would be a shocker, but man, he looks to me like an athlete in the mold of AJ Brown/Randy Moss. We’ll see what he runs but he is big, smooth, and fast. I just don’t think Brad is crazy enough to swing that hard at a position he has already sunk a ton of resources into. Only 1 ball to go around and you’ve got to feed Ra, Sam, Jamo, Gibby, and Montgomery.
Missed it by one pick by Hoodie right in front of us. Unless we believe BradDan would’ve taken Campbell even if Gonzalez was there. Benefit of hindsight but I’d definitely take Gonzo over Jack.
Oddly I think that article was by someone else. I only checked because I didn’t think it was as thorough as Risdon usually is for a scouting report. So I guess there’s another guy writing Lions scouting reports now too?
One of the reasons I like Bishop is because he’s different from what we have. He’s a box/strong safety, through and through. Reminds me a ton of Hufanga. Kerby is strictly a deep/free safety, and while I prefer Iffy deeper as well, he can definitely play in the box, but it’s mostly to cover or blitz. He doesn’t really offer that almost linebacker-ish presence in the run game. Bishop would.
I may have a slight preference to Hicks but those have been the two been the safeties that most intrigued me since the fall. In part bc of familiarity but also bc they add that skillset that we lost when The Joker left last free agency. Though I think both are better in coverage.
Though The Rabbit now intrigues the hell out of me bc of that energy and how that might be a force multiplier of sorts.
