Same way we got CJGJ in this year.
To me Branch is a slot corner which is admittedly very similar but doesn’t have as many run responsibilities. However Branch is excellent against the run, and when you find a guy like that who can also cover slot receivers (the weakness of a box safety), you’ve found gold. You could definitely say Branch does a lot of box safety things, but it’s still not as much of a linebacker-y position. You rarely want him weaving through OL traffic, let him come at it from the edge.
The best box safeties imo are havoc-wreakers like Polamalu, Rodney Harrison, John Lynch and Hufanga, they line up at LB or in the slot or as blitzers and just generally make life hell for the offense in short areas. They will periodically make plays down the field but mostly their operational area is in the box. I think it’s probably fair to call them glorified LBs, but they bring a much stronger coverage element to the area.

Bishop has better instincts in zone than most guys that are that good going downhill. In particular I think he’s one of those eyes in the back of his head kind of guys.
Also, while I may have a Pac 12 bias here, I think Utah is the Iowa of the West in terms of how well coached the guys are.
With Utah guys I don’t think you have to waste time breaking down bad habits that often. Typically the foundation is established.

OK, so the dream of enormous value comes true. How does this play out in 2024 and beyond? Does Mims start at OG and wait for a Decker injury or decay to move to OT? Lots of 6 OL alignments?
Yeah, that’s about how I see it. Start at OG, serve as swing tackle (which we need pretty desperately, honestly). For 6 OL alignments I suspect he would shift outside because imo our depth would be better in the interior, but that’s for the staff to sort out. It’s nice to have that option anyway.
Then at the end of his deal, if he’s ready to replace Decker - who’ll be 35 by the end of that deal (and turning 36 before the following season) - shift him over and start again. If he’s not, then absolute worst case we’ve got a stud OG (imo of course) who ought to be able to continue as our swing tackle.

Yeah his '22 tape is a different animal imo. Their scheme totally changed with new coaches this year and they were asking him to play stupidly.

I honestly think some of the misconceptions are bc of his pot belly. Scheme changes and the talent level of his teammates falling off a cliff surely didn’t help either. But his play style belies his body type. Though Warren Sapp’s did as well. Not comparing him to Sapp of course.

IMO, MICH CB Sainristil, has nearly all of the attributes MCDC/Holmes look for, as far as Grit, Production, Leadership, Knowledge, Desire, Speed, etc. allowing much greater scheme flexibility on the back end. He is similar to Branch, in that he seems to nearly always to be in the Right Place at the Right Time to make a play. Drafting Sainristil, would allow our DC to move Branch back to his more natural position and patrol/cover S Joseph’s periodic misadventures on the deep ball.
Sainristil is a BALLHAWK with 6 interceptions in 2023. As an Ex-Receiver, Sainristil knows the Receiver position and has excellent anticipation skills to jump the route, when the opportunity presents itself. He is a Playmaker !!..I see alot of S Glover Quin in his game. Play Sainristil as a Nickel CB, move CB Branch back to Safety, skip CJ Garner-Johnson, save $$, and foolish penalties…Sainristil at #73 would be a wise pick, IMO.
