Great arms
Great points…
Since Carter himself clearly didn’t make a huge impact, and that’s with Sweat, Reddick, Cox etc around him… I don’t think chasing the ghost of Suh/Donald is necessary.
We need 5 DTs on the roster…
- A guy capable of 6-10 sacks inside, while not being a liability vs the run
- A guy capable of 3-5 sacks while being very good against the run
- A stout blocker eater with the size and power to clog the middle and draw doubles.
- A reliable vet that can handle snaps
- A developmental project.
The real issue is we swung and missed with Levi O as he profiled as “#1” on the above list.
- #2 we have in spades already with McNeill
We need #3 pretty badly
-
#4 this should be Benito or Levi next year
-
#5 until proven otherwise, it’s still Bro Mart- I think they saw him as #3, but it was a stretch.
If Levi was Kobie Turner and Bro was Travis Jones we’d be set…. But?
I like Byron Murphy and a cheaper deal to DJ Reader?
Murphy II
Alim
Reader
Levi
BroMart
A second rounder and a 2 yr 16M FA deal- he turns 30 in July.
@CuriousHusker was hyping up Kobie Turner on here super early last year, like in October of his senior year.
This year his favorite late round DT, or at least one of them, is DeWayne Carter from Duke. Hopefully Brad is listening.
I don’t think Carter is going to be as much of a splash player. Not sure why his pass rush production was down. They were better up and down their front so I wonder if there were schematic changes. But I think he’s more violent and physical than Turner. Could probably function as a small nose in small stretches even. I do like him a good bit. Three time captain which I’m sure that we’ll love.
Anyone else you like further down the board at DT? My guy Cross went back to school.
I hear that Brodrik Martin guy might have potential.
Husker are you the poster that opened an Asian fusion restaurant in Portland about 5-7 years ago?
I did not. Never lived in Portland but always enjoy my visits. Been a while though.
Can Brad Holmes pull off another ‘Jamo’ type trade up in the 2024 draft?
Should we trade up? Or keep the volume of picks?
What players could we target in a trade up?
2 trades from the (2021, 2022) draft that may give us a foundation to work from
2021 Jets/Vikings
2022 Chiefs/Patriots
Using OTC trade chart for comparison of point value and potential Lions compensation
MIN traded #14 (1663 points)
NYJ traded #23, #66, #86 (3031 points)
3031 - 1663 = 1368 value difference
NE traded #21 (1457 points)
KC traded #29, #94, #121 (2562 points)
2562 - 1457 = 1105 value difference
Ok, what do the Lions trade?
DET trades #30, #63, #93 (2879 points)
The 2 examples above had a value difference of (1368,1105) - so I’ll give the Lions value right in the middle of that — 1225 points of value difference
Where would that put us on a trade value chart Cynodon?
DET 2879 points - 1225 point difference = 1654 value the Lions (should) get from comparing trades above. This isn’t perfect, but gives a general idea of value in recent draft trades.
- 1663
- 1628
- 1595
Give me Terrion Arnold at #15 (…or insert another potential blue chip prospect)
Give me Chris Jones @ $28 million per year in FA
Absolutely a chance we trade up. Guesstimating the details is basically impossible, but I’d be alright with a guy like Arnold for sure. Also DeJean, Verse, Turner, McKinstry, Mitchell and maybe Mims or Latham, as well as Odunze or Thomas. And I’m sure I’ll add more as we go.
DJ’s first mock, lot of interesting stuff. Byron Murphy going 11th (!). Quinyon Mitchell at 17. Has us getting Wiggins at 30 which I haven’t seen yet and would really love (and McKinstry goes right after us at 31). Also 8 OTs off the board by pick 24.
I love how dj’s mock fell for us.
I feel like Atlanta wants to go QB bad though.
Ill be looking at CB all weekend.
So far, only looked Quinyon Mitchell and I would take him in round 1.
This mock seems to have the most accurate guys who will go in the 1st round as of yet, minus the CBs I have not looked at.
Still think Newton is vastly overrated. Undersized, inconsistent play. Questionable motor. Not for me.
Fautanu for a heavy zone blocking team? Maybe. But I question his pass blocking anchor. Saw him get handled by Dorlus with a long arm with ease. If you cant anchor against Dorlus, how are you gonna anchor against NFL DT’s? Hopefully we arent considering him at any point. But thats my opinion.
And I am not a Jayden Daniels fan. Skinny with a slender frame which inhibits his ability to add weigjt, and arm strength/power is lacking. I think he is also vastly overrated and I dont think he is a franchise QB.
Also, not big on Devontez Walker. Not twitchy. Id rather have Legette and AD Mitchell. Mitchell could be a great option for us as we are seemingly valuing route running and separation. Goff isnt the strongest thrower. Mitchell fits us well in that respect.
EDIT: Some I cant say on definitively…the CBs (except Mitchell), and Bo Nix. @CuriousHusker probably has watched a ton of Bo Nix I would imagine.
If you guys click on some of the players in the DJ draft, you can see some early scouting reports and grades by Zierlein…
Our biggest weakness back there and his ball production is off the charts good so it does seem like a good fit. Just down the road so Imagine that we’ve seen him a ton.
Q. Mitchell has size, footwork, speed and ball production. Like him
I’m with you on Mitchell he’s my CB1 with Arnold coming in just behind him. Maybe they’re 1a and 1b. I liked Burke too, wish he hadn’t gone back to school. Really like DeJean too but not so much as a lockdown corner, more of a chess piece. Just such a freak athlete that guy.
I disagree on Tez Walker though. Well I don’t think he’s super twitchy, but I think he’s got enough to beat press and snap off his breaks. And his smooth long speed is very impressive. There’s some concern you’re getting a one-dimensional guy, but I don’t think so. Will be interesting to see how he does in the Senior Bowl.
I’ve been over my Legette love. I have Adonai lower than both he and Tez though.
I’m not Daniels’s biggest fan either, but I think he’s much more likely to go mid-late first and don’t dislike him as much there.
So, in DJ’s draft:
4 QB’s no JJ no Penix
9 OL I think 7 or 8 were OT
2 DT
4 DE
6 CB
1 TE at 15
Half the draft is OL/DL players
And 6 WRs
