If you are just now finding out that the clock you see on TV is not the official clock, I don’t know what to say. This isn’t new, you just aren’t paying attention.

Obviously the NCAA could get around a mess like this by making the secret official clock with tenths of a second visible to everyone in the stadium and the TV audience.
And I’m sure they are about as eager to do that as I am to eat gas station pufferfish sushi.

Uhhhhh. Sparty won by 10. Probably the only time we will do that all year. Pretty sure they won’t be the one crying at the end of the year. They have had a whole season to know it’s coming. I just think this whole thing is funny because the rest of the country is starting to see what the rest of the B1G knows. It would be worse if they had the advantage and lost. At least UMich takes advantage of permanent home field.

You know the more I think about it…why did any Western player try to make a play on the ball?? By the time that ball came sailing down everybody was out of bounds. The game would have been over

I’ve been watching football all my life. I’ve seen and had my heart ripped out by questionable calls in key moments of games. I’m a Lions fan, need more be said? It’s a terrible feeling, especially for younger players, so I feel for the Western players. They are a hell of a football team and they played their hearts out. It sucks to lose like that, and I hope it fuels them to go undefeated the rest of this season. They deserve it
All that said, I do not feel for the Buckeye/Spartan fans flooding this board with their typical nonsense. “Michigan cheated” as if Whittingham told them to put a second back on the clock. This unhealthy hatred some of you have is quite intense, to which I would say, it’s just a football game.

Because its not just osu and msu. And this board is 85 uofm fans. 10 msu and 5 others.

Players are taught to “swat it down.” As long as the ball is in the air, there is still a chance for the play to end up successful for the offense. That plus natural instincts will have some players trying to intercept the ball. In order to coach for the screw job…I mean moment that just happened would take an insane amount of forethought and targeted preparation for a play that rarely occurs and already has an extremely low chance for success for the offense. Part of the coaching and preparation would have to include teaching defensive players to have WR level awareness of when the out of bounds line. You would want the defense to “swat the ball down” like normal if they are in bounds, but you would have to teach an alternate method where the defender is aware they have stepped out of bounds so they do not touch the ball…giving the offensive players a better chance of a successful attempt.
This is not the first time this rule has been enforced. But its extremely rare in hail mary situations. The real outlier on this one is the clock that clearly hit 0. The rule isn’t the boogyman on this one. The desperate way they fabricated a fraction of a second to justify another play is the problem here.
