With the way Jacobs was playing how do they not adjust. Either give him help or put Chase Lucas in there.
Also sounds like we should of kept our previous d-line coach.
ThisâŚ
The issue here was there was no real plan beside the simple mission of âgo beat your guy.â
Beating your guy is easier said than done. An utter lack of creativity from Alim McNeill, Benito Jones, John Cominsky and Levi Onwuzurike as interior rushers was plainly obvious. This is where some stunts, twists, pre-snap shifting âanything at all, would have been worth trying. The tape review confirmed the first impression from Sunday. The DL played poorly as both individuals and collectively.
Looks like weâre playing checkers and everyone else is playing chess.
My takeaways:
-
Despite what week 1 said, Seattle is a really good team. They made the playoffs last year, they have a pro bowl QB and have some really good weapons at WR.
-
Someone on the front line has to step up. Hutchinson is going to get double teamed every game, so someone up front needs to beat their man one on one and create pressure. Some times stunts on the line are fine, but some times it comes down to guys like Cominsky, McNeil or Levi just being better than the guy they are going against.
-
Jacobs is bad, and that was exacerbated by the fact that Lockett is really good.
-
Hoping that Decker can make it back this week. I think Atlanta is going to apply more pressure up front that Seattle did.
and thatâs a matty patty thing. âthey just have to do their jobâ.
I am really worried - and was when we re-signed him - that Glasgow is just past it. He was awful for Denver last year, and while everyone made the excuse that he was still coming back from injury (which was true), it wasnât like he looked any slower than he did pre-injury. He was just bad. And he might still be bad.
Iâd love to blood one of Sorsdal or Awosika, but I understand thatâs a lot to ask. We donât want to get Goff killed. Itâs a tricky sitch.
I want to see Steven Gilmore. We need TOs and I think he may have a knack for it.
While you may be right about GG I think itâs tough to judge guys on performance when they are mid game replacements. Itâs such a tough ask.
Yep, itâs a âtwo step backwardsâ thing.
Yeah thatâs fair, though mostly Iâm judging him on last yearâs performance.
Was 2022 Denver a mess? I canât remember.
For anyone who enjoys studying the Lions and their players - This channel is a must.
For example - Hereâs a link to All 22 film study of their defense vs. the Seahawks:
He mainly covers the Lions and Ravens. Hereâs a link to subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/@all_22_films/featured
Ha! Certainly the situation wasnât great, but just watching him play it was obvious. He really, really struggled.
Jacobs against Metcalf is mismatch.
Thatâs what I was saying when I said, they were not tuning the defense to the players, they were trying to tune players to the defense they wanted to run.
You have to accept the limitations of your players and put them in position to win.
Theyâre doing the same thing with Houston and McNeil, and getting the same results.
Mind you, they know how to win with these players. They just donât want to use the system that worked last year. I sure as hell hope we donât have to go 1-6 this season before they make the adjustment this season.
Wait so Big V is hurt and Glasgow is past his prime days.
Now we have a gaping hole at RG? Who woulda thunk it.
Is Dalton Risner still available???
And the guy you loved that seemingly pretty much everyone else on this board hated-Skoronski is tearing it upâŚ
Silly me, but I expected our âvauntedâ DE depth to shine in a big way against Seattle. They didnât! What this team needs more than anything else is another GOOD DE!
Brad Holmes⌠Could you please make a call to Carolina and find out why Brian Burns isnât playing? Offer them a third round pick for the guy even though heâs on his last year. Maybe theyâll take it. I think he could have an immediate impact on the entire DL. Do you want to double-team Hutch? OK. And yes, they still need an IDL, but having a threat like Burns opposite Hutch would change the dynamics of our entire line and defense.
Thatâs what they said about Harris the 3 phase guy. Iâm not sure the outside rush will get better with the play of the inside guys. I mean them guys are shameful
He was too expensive, but other, later guys we loved like Zavala, Bergeron, Avila, are starters playing really well, and apparently Tippman, Sidy Sow, Nick Saldiveri, have looked good too. Mauch and Torrence are starters as well though theyâve had their struggles from what Iâve heard, but itâs only the 2nd week.
