Sadly the Lions are 7 and 4 vs non NFC north teams which should be a playoff team…But getting whooped in the division hurts a ton
4 year average.
NFC north, each team averaged 9.5 wins. best in the NFL.
2nd is the AFC North at 9.1
3rd NFC West at 8.9
Last is NFC South at 7.1
Yea the NFC north is king
If they lose we hire Todd Bowles as Lions DC cause he is getting fired if he finishes 1 and 8
Him and Dan like each other a lot from what it seems.
I think they both came up under Parcells too
Now this means little in the big picture as coaches are routinely fired after it being said they are safe. But.
Exactly, protect the den! Our road record at 8 wins was stellar after the pre DC year’s when we had a 3 yr stretch of losing on the road.
Said it before, the path to the playoffs starts with beating your division opponents. Then you have to beat NFC teams on your schedule.
Just like KC this year getting bounced early in 25’. Last year they won 12 games by 3 points or less, not this yr! We don’t need to be the highest scoring team and be .500. We need to adapt, adjust and consume each opponent 1 at a time. Some are gonna be close wins and losses but right now this team is lost.
Perfect example is game on Xmass vs Minn. If 31 other teams played them in a row every team would beat Brosmer, C’mon…we beat ourselves! Minn blitzes, hello We play them twice a yr. No answers on offense from the play calling or adjustments from the 4 and 5 th string TE’s to block. Just take Gibbs out because the line sucks…wtf! If you watched SF vs Bears like me you saw 2 teams that constantly made adjustments and play changes and used thier best players wherever and however they can. Not just continually trying to jam a square peg in a round hole! It’s just not a mountain of injuries..
That sucks. Iron sharpens iron. You want to be the best, you have to beat the best.
15-2 would be a disappointment.
I’m not really rooting for the easiest schedule. Whether they finish third or fourth, the schdule will be WAY easier than it was this year. And do you really want the easiest schedule so that you’re not fully tested by the competition?
The difference between a third and fourth-place schdule basically comes down to three games – against the NFC East (Commanders vs Giants), NFC West (probably Niners/Seahawks/Rams vs. Cardinals), and AFC South (Colts vs Titans). The only significant difference is the NFC West opponent. Still, I’d rather be ‘tested’ with the schedule vs. roilling through a bunch of lollipops.
And who knows what these teams look like next year. The Bears, 49ers and Patriots were 4th place teams last year.
I really don’t get rooting for a 4th place schedule.
At this point I want to win the Superbowl and a Superbowl team doesn’t need the easiest schedule.
Our schedule was very hard this year and if we had an easier one we probably make the playoffs but so what? We weren’t a real team this year.
Now an easier schedule can help seeding but who cares
Interesting. But the great question is if this correlated with place finish in division. Obviously in Chicago’s case. Good info.
If the Lions can get back to, close to, or even better than 2024 team, this 4th place schedule could help them to gain #1 seed again for the playoffs. As we know from the 24 season it’s not garentee for anything, but #1 seed has won the Super Bowl over 50% of the time since 1975. For what it’s worth. And since we’re not gonna mint pennies anymore my 2 cents is, you might say, worthless.
Strikes me as cherry picking. When you win alot of games, your opponents can have a bad record - they lost to you.
And there are counterexamples to his point: Houston (made playoffs) .538, LA Rams (made playoffs) .533, Tampa .533 or Carolina .522.
I still want to take down the Bears, knock them down to the three seed, and finish 3rd
Great teams not playing themselves plays a role. But I think when you get a confluence of a good team coming off of a down year or a team with an ascendant talent and/or new coach PLUS a last place schedule it is a clear advantage.
These types of things are really only as pronounced as they are bc of how short the NFL season is.
I am fine with this.
I’ve always thought a Lions vs Lions Super Bowl would be fun. How can the refs screw us then!? ![]()

Flag. Every play. Warnings are given. Both teams disqualified simultaneously. Zebras claim the Super Bowl. And Western civilization collapses shortly thereafter.
Jerru Jones is a Jenius!
