I read where Vaki didn’t want to run the rock (is his heart really in running the ball) at the next level, so I don’t know. But I do love the pick.
Yeah a lot of people didnt know what to make of him? what is he as a pro?
He is a motherfuckin lion! And we draft football players!
He’s the Football Ohtani.
Hopefully less gambling
Ehh he met with the offensive staff when he was here and said they wanted him playing RB. Obviously none of us know, curious how it plays out.
Brad Holmes NEVER drafts for need. Ever.
Yup - not to mention, he could possibly be a killer on ST
I think our coaches value ST more than most
It’s a balance, this just simply isn’t true. He has definitely drafted for need before.
Matter of fact the Lions needed a developmental OT to start developing behind Decker/Sewell and he drafted one today
Great in the open field and getting those TFLs on D
…and as he got drafted Day 3, he’s this years ARSB “chip on his shoulder” candidate. Plus he’s Tongan and so we now have a streak going.
I think he is going to be more of a RB/gadget player type more so than a S.
I suspect he will be returning kicks at some point as well.
Bottom line is the kid is a gritty player and we will find ways to utilize him
This dude was the youngest of 11 kids. He had a chip long before he got picked in the 6th round. “I’ll just pass out water to the vets if that’s what they want” lol. Love it.
.
I still think they’re going to cross train him at safety at some point. During the pre draft process I thought he could backup Iffy
Just to be clear, I don’t hate the pick but I don’t see starter upside outside of Special Teams and if you’re giving that much draft capital to trade into the 4th I’d hope for more upside. Like the Martin pick I can understand because he has the upside of a starting DT although a long path to get there but I don’t see Vaki as a starting RB or safety if he pans out.
Then again…I Trust in Brad so I’d be more than happy to eat crow if Vaki becomes more than that.
Give him Will Harris ST snaps
Kick Returner
Probably gunner on punts (bye Dorsey)
Also can play RB on offense
Also can fill in at Safety/ Nickel
I have no clue but I watch more pac12 football than I should and he was a freaking meteor. Just took that league by storm. And on just a small bit of the playbook and with limited reps. On offense I mean.
Tons of potential at safety IMO but it’s more potential at this juncture.
Fair enough. He’s a wacky profile for sure.
Andy Ludwig Utah Offensive Coordinator -
“I think Eric Weddle comparison is very fair and accurate”
First Utah Defender with 2 rushing touchdowns in a game since 2006…Eric Weddle.
Plays more of a strong safety role/ body type downhill guy.
Kerby/Iffy are more FS types.
Great pick
What do career earnings look like for safety vs RB, longevity etc
Definitely but his hands are supposed to be terrific. HS coach said slot WR is actually his best position.
