5 way too early candidates to replace John Morton as Lions offensive coordinator

I like every, single one of those guys. Can we hire them all and see how they do?

Highly inappropriate!

Let’s let Dan make the decision. Running a asset out of town because a few fans can’t see his value is childish.

Dan hasn’t even hinted that John is going to be let go. Don’t put words in his mouth.

Count me in as a member of the group that can’t see his value.

Do you do the hiring and firing?

Dan has repeatedly spoke of his value.

Listening to Dan, I get the feeling that he would prefer not calling the plays permanently but it is not set in stone that he won’t do just that and keep Jonny Morton as his OC. Whatever it takes, he will adapt. And he expects his coaches to do the same.

I don’t doubt that Dan values Morton as a coach, but it does appear he’s lost faith in his ability to call a game. It’s a different animal. If Dan doesn’t hand play calling back to Morton at some point this season, then it’s probably fair to assume there will be a staff realignment, at the very least, next season.

I’m curious to see how the defense does more so than the offense. It’s clear Dan knows how to call plays and is good at it, but with more time devoted to the offense now, it’ll be interesting to see how Shep and the defense do with less time available for Dan and his input.

I think an outsider will only be considered if he’s already familiar with our offensive system.

I don’t think there’s any shot that we hire Daboll or McDaniel. I doubt Dan would think that installing a new offense is a good idea.

I think that it’s most likely that there’s a promotion from within (including the possibility of Morton regaining his play calling privileges) or Dan continuing to call plays while we’re in the Goff window.

Agreed on the outside hire. Despite what he’s said publicly, I don’t see a world where Morton returns to play calling duties. This year or next for that matter.

What if we bring Daboll in as a consultant for the rest of the year? I could easily see something like that happening, he gave Dan his first coaching job.

Oh, for sure something like that is on the table.

I just don’t see a world where we hire an OC who wants to come in and install “his” offense, which is what any big name would want in that situation.

Right, I agree. We’ll be running the offense Dan wants, for sure. But I think Dan would be open to melding it with new ideas from outside sources. He loves empowering coaches, and I doubt he’ll insist a coach do things the exact same way he does it. He just doesn’t operate that way.

My vote would be for Scottie Montgomery I think he has paid his dues here. he has the potential to return some comp picks.

I would also start hyping David Shaw. After every win I’d say we could not have done it without David. David has been the biggest reason for our success over the last 4 years. We would not be here without David. Actually I do think Shaw should be a candidate for a head coaching position. i think he has to be in our system for 2 years before we would get any comp picks for him.

This game will tell us. If Morton is calling plays again that tells me Campbell still has belief in him. If Dan is calling the plays I don’t see Morton remaining a lion beyond this season. I believe there will be a mutual agreement to part ways after this year if that’s the case.

We have proof of that this season when Morton rolled out the mariucci offense week 1.

I think Daboll has his sights set on a different job…

I’m always in the world of hopes… !

Morton is human… and if he is willing, he can learn and adapt….

When someone say the rifle isn’t accurate… I will take it and operate it myself to see if it is broke or was it operator error… if Morton sees he errors then he can correct them…

I personally would love to see Morton learn and get a new energy to become a designer of the offense

And if we decide to replace Morton, Daboll would have a head start for next year. I like it.

If Ben was a rifle John would be more like a muzzle loader.
