Aaron Donald retires

Maybe they didn’t like any of them? All I know is I’m reading multiple reports that say the Rams have known for awhile now. It’s why they restructured, for one.

Maybe they don’t have the salary cap space to spend big on a DT.

But, for the first time in a long time, they have a lot of draft picks:

Los Angeles Rams Draft Picks by Round in 2024

  • Round 1, Pick 19
  • Round 2, Pick 52
  • Round 3, Pick 83
  • Round 3, Pick 99 (Resolution JC-2A selection)
  • Round 5, Pick 154
  • Round 5, Pick 155 (from PIT)
  • Round 6, Pick 196
  • Round 6, Pick 209 (compensatory pick)
  • Round 6, Pick 213 (compensatory pick)
  • Round 6, Pick 217 (compensatory pick)
  • Round 6, Pick 254 (compensatory pick)

I would love to trade for a bunch of those late picks and let Brad cook.

beat me to it. Very Aaron Rogers-like.

I’m sure @DeadStroke can make more sense of this than I can… but I did find this on the twitterverse.

Tom in Cali has things all screwed up. If Donald retired today, the option bonus is void. Also, Donald can’t retire today and be part of a post June 1 designation. It’s one or the other. He’ll retire and they won’t file the paperwork of his retirement until June 2. carrying his $1.125M base salary is not an issue.

Looks like I made a mistake on the dead cap for Donald, the $20M option bonus hasn’t been exercised yet, unless they intend to give that to him as a retirement bonus as well.

I’d like to see what Jason at OTC says about things.

Any concerns about the rams just got reduced to a minimum.

I’m glad I was able to watch Aaron Donald play. You can never take greatness for granted, and watching him play was amazing. The guy is a first ballot hall of famer.

Teams don’t have to wait for June 2nd this offseason. Its a leap year. So June 1st is actually happening on May 31st (its a leap year joke, not to be taken seriously)

I find it hard to keep up with the math sometimes, due to all of the ways teams move money around. We would literally have to lay the contracts side by side by side for each restructure to get to the bottom of “real cash paid” for a particular season. Lately I have found myself using the “cash paid” feature on OTC. Just go to “history” on the players page and this pops up:

Anybody else see read anything about Kelly Stafford saying she may try and convince Matthew Stafford to retire after Donald announced his retirement today?

She is trending on tweeter machine again

I always said i could see all 3 retiring together.
Donald, Stafford and McVay

So basically you are saying its going to be like playing the Detroit Lions every week.

She loves attention so much… :joy::joy:

Good thing we drafted Eric Ebron that year.

Jason at OTC shared his thoughts on it.

They treated his $5M guaranteed roster bonus as a signing bonus (that’s what helped save money originally) . . . he is unclear of whether it was actually paid or not.
They added $8.79 of his base salary to the option bonus that is due in mid June. If he does retire and doesn’t play in 2023, he won’t get the $20M option bonus or the $8.79M that was added to the option bonus.

If Donald stays retired, different scenarios end up with $28.5M total in dead cap or $33.5M (if they give him the $5M as a parting gift). If retired the option bonus and the $8.79M added to option won’t be paid.

That’s why I wanted to wait for Jason’s analysis. Better info and a better understanding of it than me.

So what happens @DeadStroke when AD is bored in November? Contract kick back in? Tradeable?

Future Lion trade target? Yes I’m dreaming

He immediately reverts to the Lions because we should have drafted him in 2014.

or

his contract tolls and when he unretires everything about 2024 salary is reinstated in the year he unretires. i.e. if he unretires in 2025, his 2024 contract details would now be part of his 2025 contract.

It’s the gift that kept on giving for the last 10 years as Aaron Donald wreaked havoc on the rest of the NFL and won a Super Bowl.
