I don’t think he’s worth 60 mill per season either… But San Fran has went through Jimmy made of glass G, 3 first rounders on Lance and now finally have Purdy. They almost have to pay him top dollar. If not, start all over with a new rookie QB… Who very well might be Trey Lance 2.0

If that’s what it is, then do what you did with Trey Lance. Find a team that’s stupid and desperate, and trade with them. The 49ers gave up 3 first round picks for Lance, but when it was clear he was getting outplayed by a Mr. Irrelevant 7th rounder, they accepted that and moved on. If you are the 49ers, and if Shanahan is the supposed genius he is porported to be, then he should be able to find a QB who can play within his scheme.
I am not saying it’s easy, I am saying I’d rather do that hard work than pay 60 million dollars to a guy who I am not sure is worth the money.

Purdy’s agent would be wise to keep him off the field next year until a deal is done. Sit 6 regular season games if needed.
It would cost him $388,000 to holdout for 6 regular season games. No brainer for him.

Now that they have one they are not going to quibble over a few million. Purdy Wins.

Whether we think he is worth it or not teams always pay Franchise QB’s.
Burrow got his money: He deserved it with stats and taking his team to a Super Bowl.
Love got his money on one good half season.
Trevor Lawrence got paid on potential.
Tua hasn’t won a playoff game.
Goff got his money twice.
Justin Herbert, like Lawrence is based on potential.
Lamar got his money with MVP.
Hurts took his team to the Super Bowl.
Kyler Murray got paid.
Deshaun Watson…
Kirk Cousins has gotten paid several times.
Derek Carr, Dak, Stafford, Josh Allen, even Baker Mayfield and Daniel Jones.
Trust me, Purdy is going to get paid at least $57M AAV.
The 9ers would rather pay to go back to searching for and trying to develop a rookie QB.

I think he’s proved that he’s not that guy. He’s a great coordinator and play caller, but he needs a talented QB to run his offense (like everyone). SF has dumped so much money into their team by borrowing from the future to field their current and past teams, that they can’t afford to go with a Jimmy G, Trey Lance, Colin Kapernick, etc, while trying to find the right guy They have to pay Purdy, even if it starts with franchise tag. They do have Purdy under contract for this year and next, then they can play the franchise tag. SF has proven that they aren’t afraid of a little contract controversy when a player needs a new contract. When push comes to shove, SF has to cave to Purdy, they really have no other choice.
Since you are the salary cap guru here…
do you think there is ANY chance Purdy steps on the field next year with a salary of $1.1 million???

That’s a risk… if their backup QB came in and played well his value drops hard. He’s worth more to SF than any other team. Get a deal done quickly.
