Analzone video (not porn)

But also NSFW. You might end up cursing at the screen. Not only is AA badly out of position, he actually blasts Rodrigo off a tackle that would have stuffed a drive and hurts him in the process.

Seriously WTF does Dan see in this guy? He’s awful with two capital AA’s

I don’t understand why they had Anzalone return other than he’s familiar.

Oooh man that’s bad. Not a good series of downs for Alex.

Maybe @Cap is right and it’s time to start playing Barnes more… More of a Rodrigo/Barnes/Board rotation?

Right now, I am kind of in a ‘why not’ sort of a mode. It can’t get a lot worse than what we saw Sunday.

Yea, can’t get worse than forcing zero punts. I say play all the youngsters at this point. Iffy, Houston, Barnes, Kerby, Taylor…Paschal soon. Throw them all out there. At least the young guys might improve. Brockers for example is only getting worse at this point. Anzalone at least played pretty good vs the Vikes, but shit he was bad vs the Hawks.

I’m starting to think Cap is spot on. Other than the fact that Barnes sucks too. I think everyone is sick of Dollar store Thor

That seems to be a theme on defense. They all suck. lol some just suck a little less than others.

Let’s not get crazy…

That is funny.

The only defense I can muster for Analzone is around the accusation that was made that guys were “trying too hard” and playing out of position on defense. He looked terrible last year when Jamie “Turd of all Turds” Collins was half-assing it out there, and then AA looked decent after that.

I wouldn’t bet my life that’s what’s going on overall, and it’s certainly not what happened in the video, but it’s not the most outlandish theory, either.

that’s it. can’t get rid of everyone and in a slight defense AA knows the defense. might not actually execute it, but he knows it such as it is.

but now that it’s supposedly getting upended maybe move him to safety

This.

It should be concerning that our fifth-round pick rookie, who many slotted as a ST contributor in year one, is the best linebacker on the field.

If only we knew this …

… and could have addressed it …

… during free-agency.

But the competition for suckitude is stong.

How do we know the Lions didn’t try to sign some defensive players during free agency?

Free agents are ‘free’ to choose where they sign a contract.

Just because we didn’t sign someone…doesn’t mean Holmes didn’t put some offers on the table.

I’m just as frustrated with the defense as everyone else, but it’s difficult to blame Holmes when we don’t have all the details of the offers made.

That’s true, Detroit isn’t exactly a destination free agents are excited about. We really do have to overpay in most cases to land them. Although it seems like B. Holmes is playing the long game based on his selecting so many players with injuries. Sure hope it works, having patience isn’t easy after so many decades of misery.

Actually, 6th round. I’m not sure if they thought bringing Anzalone back and having him play with former Florida team mate Davis would be a great combination. It wasn’t, it isn’t, and yes everyone wondered, out loud, what the plan was. The O is fixed, next year they better be throwing some money at FA D and use at least 2 of the top 3 picks on D.

It’s easy to blame Holmes. The job of a GM is to improve the team and it’s pretty clear that he saw this season as another “development” year a.k.a. roster designed for tanking. Stuff like “Holmes might have put in offers but nobody wanted to take them” is just an excuse for a GM who didn’t get the job done.

In fairness, injuries have really hurt the cause but when you bring back the same players from a bad defense and you’re drafting players with an injury history, you should expect to suck again. The fault of that lies at the feet of the GM.

I’ve said before though you can’t blame Holmes for the defense without giving him credit for the offense. The players he’s brought in and the depth he created has helped us stay the course on that side of the ball with injuries that would have crippled past lions teams.

Hopefully that’s changing. Everyone can see the strides the offense has made, and everyone got a chance to meet the team and coaching staff during Hard Knocks.
Maybe, some “good” vets will consider us, now?

They didn’t bring him back right away, right? I kinda feel like our FO wasn’t terribly interested either, but also intended to stick to their plan of not overspending. When that’s the approach you end up with a lot of short-term, below-average vets and of those, the ones who tend to get signed are the ones who know the system.

How long will it take Rodrigo to know the system as well as AA? Hopefully not long at all, his intelligence was one of the things he was lauded for. It just feels like we’d be a lot better with he and Board starting.

A real head scratcher. They kept the wrong player.
MRod and JRM should be our starting backers this year.

He was our best linebacker last year, and he can’t even crack the Texans lineup, he’s mostly playing special teams. That tells us all we need to know about the Lions linebacker talent, when the best one from last year can’t start on a bad team.

yep. been needing an upgrade for awhile. we lucked out with rodrigo. i would just play barnes. let him learn already. it can’t get much worse than the seatlle game. AA is not our future.
