Are the Detroit Lions falling in love with Malik Willis?

They like Goff, that much is obvious. Are the expecting him to be the long term answer? I don’t think they have closer that door.

Having Goff in our back pocket affords us the flexibility to not be desperate for a QB.

If they wanted to take the comp pick and use it to just Tampa Bay if Willis is there and they really want him then sure. At this point, I would not be okay with him at #2 and would not want to give up premium draft capital to move up into the teens to get him.

Anyone want to speculate where DJ has him going in his 2.0 draft?

He’s not going to make it through a gauntlet of QB-needy teams in the 1st to where we’re picking at 31 or 32.

Also, you’re not just drafting for 2022, you’re drafting for the future.

If you’ve identified the player as a franchise QB and are picking #2, are you going to just let him fall to where he’s needed most like we did with Herbert?

It is certainly in the Lions best interest to hype him. But I’ve found usually over the years things are as they appear. Unless you are dealing with Kyle Shanahan. That guy is full of shit.

I would not be as mad if the Lions took a QB at 2OA. Because I don’t think there is a ton of difference between the 2nd pick and the 15th pick this year. I would certainly rather take a QB there than trade up for one. I’d rather keep the picks

But I really don’t want to take a QB there. I’d much rather they hype him, let teams know they are willing to trade down, then collect as much as they can for the pick.

I still pass on a qb this year, build the rest of the team.

Next year you have options to trade up, ala Rams, give up your two first round picks and 2024 first to move up and get a QB you want.

I like Willis and he is growing on me I just think there are too many other needs and want to build the team first. Put a rookie qb on a team where he doesn’t need to be the answer year one let the others carry him in his rookie year.

Last year it was Lance. This year it’s Willis. Someone here probably knows who’s in the running to be the guy next year.

The ceilings are very high with all of these guys, you need to find the guy with where the floor is very high. The floor with Willis is too low for me to risk at 2.

With Willis, if you’re wrong, it will take a long time to move on from the mistake because you’re always going to get those games where he shines. Trying to get you to always think you can fix those problems. That talent level is going to make you hesitant to move off him. Because if he ever does figure it out, he’ll be a stud. As most who want him here think he’ll be.

That promise… it will never go away. You’ll always see glimpses of it. You’ll always be afraid of moving off too soon and someone else reaping the benefits.

I’m no guru, but I like Willis a lot more than Lance.

I see a lot of end of season Kyler Murray in Willis. That scares the bleep out of me.

This is exactly why we’re the Lions and will never win anything meaningful. Pass on a blue chip defensive player for a QB that may never be a starter. This is exactly the kinda move I expect from this team. There always some angle to why we pass on the TJ watts for the Jared David’s of the world. Willis would be the worse pic at 2. And is exactly what I expect from Holmes.

Willis scares me.

To me, Lamar was a more polished passer and he has still had some struggles throwing the ball.

He’s an incredible athlete with an absolute cannon but he will need to work on footwork and accuracy.

Think I would have preferred fields

Why, if I may ask?

Absent a smokescreen, what’s the benefit to the Lions of gushing all over Willis?

Doesn’t seem like they’d take him at No. 2 overall.

Probably won’t be there at No. 31 or 32.

So, unless the Lions plan to trade down, I don’t see Willis in a Lions uniform.

But if you continue to present yourself like you’re going to, could you put enough pressure on Carolina to trade with you? Especially if they fall in love with Willis?

Or could you squeeze something out of Houston to keep Carolina behind them if they covet Willis?

Citing those two as they are smallest drops.

Mailk Willis reminds me of RG3

In college, RGIII was extremely accurate. As a senior, he completed 72.4% of his passes with a whopping 10.7 YPA (which means it wasn’t dink and dunk). He had 67% for his college career.

Not seeing Willis as having that level of accuracy.

Davis Mills played better than any rookie QB not named Mac Jones, so I don’t see Houston spending a 1st Rd pick on a QB.

Other than No. 6 overall, the only thing Carolina has to offer is a future 1st Rd pick. They have no 2022 picks in Rds 2 or 3 and nothing until what is presently No. 99 overall (which will go down further after 3rd Rd comp picks are added).

Watching his games last year I wasn’t wowed. Matter of fact, I was disturbed by the incredible inaccuracy throwing to the right.

See, told you I wasn’t a guru.

Lance is a thousand times better than Willis as a processor/decision-maker. He went through an entire season without throwing an interception.

I think it’s almost a crap shoot at QB. I almost feel like most of this describes Josh Allen…except not he’s the best QB in the NFL.

The reason I believe in Willis is different than you guys. I think he’s gonna assimilate this shit and embody winning (IF he goes to the RIGHT place). It’s possible a shitty team could throw him out there and ruin him.

Bro, this projects that

  1. we take him at 2
  2. he sucks
  3. whoever you are projecting to be a bluechip is a monster.
