I was very disappointed in DMo when watching the St. Brown brothers podcast, told Eq he’s weird and strange in a demaning way and then saying there was one time at St.'s house that he almost slapped ARSB.
DMo went from a player i liked to someone I felt bad vibes from.
Difference from last year is Gibbs is unquestioned #1 RB and DeMo is #2.
The RB’s still alternate series but Gibbs will get more carries because he now starts the first series and gets the 2 minute work.
Gibbs will also start the 2nd half as well the staff feels a more physical start is needed coming out of the half.
DeMo is definitely not being phased out and I think the staff is taking the proper approach.
The Lions have a lot of weapons and any time a player is not getting a lot of touches, especially if the offense is struggling a little to move the ball, fans will question whether a player that is not involved is getting enough action.
Get the ball to Gibbs, he is the Star..
Why isn’t DeMo getting the ball\?
JaMo needs to get some targets…
LaPorta needs to be more involved…
Why are they throwing to TesLAA?
Some are even saying they want Vaki to get some touches.
All can be effective, it’s about what the defense is taking away and what the offense is able to execute.
Most NFL defenses can take away one or even two of the Lions weapons.
If the O-Line is executing, No are able to take away all the Lions weapons.
I think they do want Monty in there to close out tough games as he can get tougher yards than Gibbs. Seemed like the Lions were trying to run out the clock and keep that 15pt lead vs the bucks instead of go for the jugular. Not typical Dan style… so maybe a morton thing or maybe DC was feeling the defense winning so he adjusted to the hot hand, which was really the defense.
2024-25 Season:
Jah - 250 carries out of 435 carries = 57.4%
Monty - 185 carries out of 435 carries = 42.6% He was out for three games, so Jah got all of those carries.
2025-26 Season (so far):
Jah - 104 carries out of 182 carries = 57.1%
Monty - 78 carries out of 182 carries = 42.9%
Monty’s second most carries (13) this season was in the Bucs game. He just wasn’t overly productive. Last year, he had six games with more than 13 carries and eight with less.
I see a little more Monty screen this year. Makes sense based on the utter destruction he gave Seartle last year and his unexpected wiggle.
Get him some 5 - 10 yards of open field and he is gonna make people miss and run through tackles and generally be The Mayhem Guy from Allstate in cleats
I believe that he might be the highest rated pass blocker in the league. That being the case why keep running him on first down like they have been doing. When he comes into the lineup, the D changes. “Montgomery has faced at least eight men in the box on 40 percent of his carries this season, per NFL Next Gen Stats, the second highest rate in the league. (Only Quinshod Judkins of the Browns has faced more.) That’s up from about 25 percent last season and 21 percent the season before that.”
Fine, go 8 in the box and watch quick outs to Laporta and Amon Ra. We have been VERY predictable when he has been in the game.
Out of his 13 carries 6 were on first down for a total of 10 yards. His 7 other carries were mostly on 2nd down and totaled 11 yards. I don’t believe that Gibbs faces 8 in the box much because if he gets through he’s gone, although I have no stats to back that up.
One thing I have noticed. And it seems like a real trend is that when Monty is on the field we run the ball a lot. Whereas with Gibbs in the game. we seem to be less predictable. Defenses are keying on that I think
If you take a look at Monty’s snap counts vs rushing attempts you will see what I mean.
It doesn’t get him the ball on first down. It gives him the chance to be a receiver on first down too. Why telegraph what you are doing? Invite them to play 8 in the box and throw short out’s. Loosen them up and THEN change it up. To be honest I don’t know why Goff isn’t changing the play when that’s what he’s seeing.
