I don’t think that you can block a coaches promotion to a higher position.
Personally I think AG should be higher valued. Ben has taken a roster with ridiculously skilled talent and made them elite.
AG has pulled a Mike Tomlin and taken player after player from the trash pile and led them to be better.
Both would be extremely valuable to teams. Just depends on what their opinion is of their state of the rebuild.
No we can not but he has to offer them a promotion. It can’t be a lateral move without the Lions consent.
NYG or Vegas make a ton of sense for Ben.
Chicago doesn’t. I don’t think he’d stay in division, and Caleb Williams is not Jared Goff. He needs a smart, veteran QB that he can work with, and I don’t know that Caleb is that guy.
But I have a sneaky suspicion that, if Rams fail to make the playoffs, McVay retires and Ben heads to LA. He’d get at least a year with Stafford and an otherwise pretty talented roster.
Or Philly or Dallas. But I agree. He’s looking for the he perfect fit.
I don’t think he’d want to go to Dallas, Jerry Jones has three decades of failure on his resume as a GM and he can only work with yes-men.
What about Washington. Offense seems to have some talent
Washington has a first year coach
To me the only spot that makes sense for him this year is Jacksonville. Motivated, non meddling owner. Good young veteran QB searching for redemption. Quality roster.
And probably doesn’t hurt they are AFC
Dallas seems like the best bet for short term success. Although I really don’t like that Dak Prescott deal. Yikes.
I can see that but I think he’d really prefer an established QB. And that roster is good. They get a stud RB add another higher end pass catcher, reinforce their OL and fill out the middle class of their roster and they’re a contender.
Is he though? I mean I do want Bible Belt Spiccoli to succeed but I’ve become skeptical.
I agree that I don’t think Ben wants to go to Chicago. Just looking at what the NFC North is. You are immediately walking into a division with the Lions, Vikings and Packers who are all good teams and young teams. It’s going to be a very tough division to play in for awhile.
Ben has said he wants a QB that would be similar to Goff. That is NOT Caleb Williams. I do think Jacksonville makes a lot of sense. Kahn is willing to pay whatever to win, his problem is he just finds bad ways to spend his money. Ben would have a chance to rebuild Jacksonville and build around Trevor who was great in college but has hit the skids. Sounds pretty familiar…
Washington as was said is a no go. First they have a new head coach who isn’t getting fired this year. Quinn’s done well there. Also you have a very good OC in Kliff Kingsbury.
As WCLF said above, Ben already turned down Carolina. One name I thought could make a lot of sense for Chicago was Kingsbury. Kingsbury wanted back in the game as an OC, and had worked with Williams. I had forgotten, Chicago did interview Klingsbury and he turned them down and went to Washington. I think the same scenario mentioned above played out. Kliff asked who the Bears were taking at #1 overall. Chicago said “great news! We are taking Caleb!” Klingsbury said “Nope” and went straight to Washington who took Daniels.
I am very curious to see who does take the Chicago job. Chicago believes they are a serious hotspot, and I have a feeling the NFL coaches do not agree. I think Liam Coen makes the most sense, which would be crazy because that will mean yet another new OC for Baker Mayfield.
Jax would be damn near bottom of my list. They can’t draft to save their life. Fools passed on Hutch.
That was the exact name I brought up to my Bears buddy yesterday.
The problem with the Bears job is you’re going to be married to Caleb. So you better believe in him. I don’t.
100% agree. Your job as head coach is going to be to develop a player who already thinks he has it all figured out, wants to play his way and if he succeeds, it’s all about him. If he fails, well that’s the coaches fault, Chicago can’t develop QB’s, etc. Remember coming into this year, ALL of the analyst talk was how Caleb was walking into a perfect scenario and how Chicago was finally getting it. I said before the season started, I actually think this is a worst case scenario for Chicago, and that’s exactly what happened.
Chicago will get a HC, just like Carolina did. Just like Carolina though, I think a lot of bigger name coaches run, not walk, away from that job. I am curious to see who takes the job. It will for sure be an offensive coordinator whose only job will be to pander to the mental midget.
That’s why I 100% believe for Ben to go there Baalke would have to be fired.
The jets job could be appealing to either one of them. Pick your own gm. Defense is in place, have rbs and wrs. Need to build oline and find a qb. Erin will be gone.
IMO Ben will be the Lions OC next year. I just don’t see the fit this year though Dallas would give me some pause.
But Andy Reid turns and is probably an Ice Cream Sandwich or two from forced retirement. Why not just wait for that to open up? Or Philly when they get possed about Nick again. Or Buffalo if/when Sean isn’t seen as good enough to get them over the top.
It just seems that sometime in the next 2-3 years the perfect job will open up and I think that Ben understands that.
this times 1,000.
