Wonder what the Bengals want?
The expert felt like a 2 or 3 would get it done. lol guess not.
Probably closer to 2 ones and a 2 & 3 . Lol
I see this on another thread, feel free to move or get rid of if needed.
The Bengals are messed up with how they handle their business.
Just give them whatever
I can’t take a 3rd blue-ball season in a row
(in a row?!)
Daddy needs a Super Bowl
Bengles are playing Hardball
Reports are a 1st!!! Hell no,
Obviously trey wants top 5 money,
Aka over 35m (bengles only offered him 30-33 according to reports)
So its a stalemate.
It dont blame trey. This his last big payday. He deserves to be paid 35-40m
But any team that trades for him will have to sign him to a 3-4 year 35+++ AAV contract.
So no team will be willing to trade a 2nd let alone a 1st AND pay out that money.
And cincy is in cap hell.
Especially when Chase wants 40m+
The Lions would definitely be better off trading up a bit to get a DE on a rookie deal. Unless and until they lower their asking price to a second. Which will probably happen since they can’t afford to pay him.
We all want action now, but Brad is the Villain and won’t do something that makes the Lions less competitive in how he manages the team’s assets. And we don’t even know if the Lions are one of the suitors.
If you think he’s worth 35 million a season then the Bengals think you’ll give up a 1st. We’ll be interesting to watch.
I think they’re asking for more than that.
This would be the opportunity for the Lions to part with a first. Late first round.
My guess is Cincy wants more than that.
They may be, but the market is saying otherwise. If he was looking for his second rather than his last contract, then they could ask for the moon and get it.
I’m really not sure where I stand on this:
Reasons to get Trey:
- Current depth at DE is Hutch, Davenport, Paschal, Ukwu. Not only do we need more bodies going into camp, but we also need more quality too
- Getting Trey makes our D-Line one of the best in the league, which fits Brad’s philosophy of prioritizing the trenches
- Dan has a pre-existing relationship with Trey from New Orleans, so he knows his character and will know if he can be trusted to keep working his balls off
- A big ass contract could be accommodated within the salary cap with some void year and other shenanigans that are fairly common around the league
Reasons not to get Trey:
- For all that we could fit his contract under the cap, and re-sign Kerby, Hutch, Jamo and the 2023 draft class with aforementioned cap shenanigans, there is going to be a squeeze on the roster for sure. Depth would need to be sacrificed to make it work, and we learned last season how important depth is. Top-heavy rosters don’t usually work out for that reason
- Draft pick compensation. When you get to the point of having a Super Bowl caliber roster, you need to keep hitting on your 1st and 2nd round picks to offset the loss of the players that become cap casualties. If you don’t have 1st and 2nd round picks, that becomes near impossible, Brad has found starters in the later rounds but it’s not realistic to expect that to continue at a rate that would adequately replenish the roster
- It’s just overkill. There aren’t many teams with two stud DEs on the roster, and we’re already in a privileged position having one. Spending the money and the picks elsewhere, and having more cap flexibility in general, might be better for the overall strength of the team
It’s a tough one for sure. It sounds like he just wants money, in which case he’s most likely to go somewhere that will give him exactly that. I’d be so excited to bring him in, but I won’t be surprised or disappointed if we don’t.
I’m wondering as well. I’d have no problem giving our first but don’t know how we can do that contract.
The contract is definitely the killer. According to reports, he turned down a three-year $100 million extension.
I think I’d rather go after a top rook and sign Z Smith instead.
Thats where im at.
Like if it wad just a 3rd round pick and a $30m contract. IN. But a high pick AND and extra 5-10m? That’s essentially 3 players for 1.
So
Option A.
Trade for Trey, and sign him.
Option B.
Re Sign Z for $6m
High draft pick DL
STILL have $30m left to get more help.
I like option B.
