Best Movie or TV Show Post-Covid

Lets call it 2020ish or later. I can’t seem to find much these days. Glad I don’t have time to watch as much, but what the hell happened to good movies and tv?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Modern movies are trash.

I really enjoyed these 2…on Netflix though.

Your Honor - with Bryan Cranston as the leading role. 2 seasons, 20 episodes available now, and works its way to a conclusion.

The Diplomat - with Keri Russell as the leading role, although Rufus Sewell plays her husband and his role is great as well. 2 seasons so far with more on the way. But season 3 is probably a year+ away (Ugh, I hate that).

I won’t be much help if you don’t like Sci-Fi/Fantasy, but there have been some bangers lately, as far as I’m concerned. Instead of explaining the show, I’ll just past links to their S1 trailers. These are in no particular order:

Station Eleven (HBO - 2021) 1 Season Mini-Series - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPm52rq8CZA

Severance (Apple TV - 2022-Current) 1 Season (Season 2 coming in Jan) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEQP4VVuyrY

The Sandman (Netflix - 2022-Current) 1 Season (Season 2 in 2025) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJXamnPUm0I

The Last of Us (HBO - 2023-Current) 1 Season (S2 in Spring 2025) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLtkt8BonwM

The Peripheral (Amazon - 2022) 1 Season (Cancelled sadly) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRdkRQzcrrc

The Continental (Peacock - 2023) 1 Season Mini-series (Really more like 3 movies) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3FzXBkCUAg

Three Body Problem (Netflix - 2024-Current) 1 Season (renewed for S2 & S3) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdvzhCL7vIA

Fallout (Amazon - 2024-Current) 1 Season (S2 confirmed, no release date) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-mugKDQDlg

Foundation (Apple TV - 2021-Current) 2 Seasons (S3 in development) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4QYV5GTz7c

Rings of Power (LOTR) (Amazon - 2022-Current) 2 Seasons (Rubs some people the wrong way because it’s a LOTR property, but I thought S2 was much better than S1) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8UAUAuKNcU

House of the Dragon (GoT) (HBO - 2022-Current) 2 seasons (S3 in development) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DotnJ7tTA34

Silo (Apple TV - 2023-Current) 1 season (S2 currently airing) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZYhuvIv1pA

Dune Prophecy (HBO - 2024-Current) 1 Season (currently airing, I’m sure this gets picked up for more if they want it) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzVHWNosS2o

If you’re not into Sci-Fi/Fantasy, I really enjoyed these shows too:

Succession (HBO - 2018-2023) 4 Seasons (S+ Tier show, easy Top 5 for me of all time) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzYxJV_rmE8

White Lotus (HBO - 2021-Current) 2 Seasons (S3 in Feb 2025) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGLq7_MonZ4

Your Honor (2020-2023) 2 Seasons (Was only supposed to be 1 season, but extended after S1 success) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88l_97FnHSk

Baby Reindeer (Netflix - 2024) 1 Season Mini-Series (Based on True Story) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eafm1gB6SCM

Under the Bridge (Hulu - 2024) 1 Season Mini-Series (Based on True Story) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2MC8vZe6mI

If I had to pick one from each category to watch on repeat forever, I’d pick Foundation from Sci-Fi and Succession from the others.

Awesome show, I agree!

Writers strike really boned a lot of shows and extended some timelines, unfortunately.

The Expanse is pretty bada##. I guess it started in 2015 but it’s still bada## and seldom makes these kind of lists.

Second on Diplomat.
Lincoln Lawyer season 3 just came out
Landman (haven’t watched but everyone I know is enjoying it)

Princess bride is ageless

Post 2020 is like a barren desert for me and watching the flatscreen

But i counter with reruns:

Lucifer on Netflix

Night agent

Queens gambit

Warrior nun

I guess it depends on what you’re into. If you’re a Sci-Fi nerd, I’d recommend Foundation, which is based on Isaac Asimov’s 1951 works. Lee Pace’s performance as Day is captivating and overall, it’s just a solid space opera, though it can be hard to follow for some.

If you’re not a Sci-Fi nerd, I’d go Succession - corporate family drama based loosely on the Koch family. Absolute masterclass in my opinion. Pretty much won every award ever. Ensemble cast is amazing. The only people I’ve ever recommended it to who didn’t like it was because there was “no one to root for”. Everyone in the series is a jackass and you’re just watching the trainwreck.

Dune-Prophecy after 4 episodes is ABSOLUTELY KILLING IT. Even if you arent a Dune honk and read the books, if youve seen the movies, it is very much in that look/feel/tone.

For me, SuperDuneHonk…SO SO GOOD.

Also, Reacher, Better Call Saul, Stranger Things, Night Agent, Squid Game and House of the Dragon.

For Sci Fi Guys, I heard Foundation was good as well, mostly on track with Asimov’s original

Agreed. It’s been pretty solid and I just want more. Also a big Travis Fimmel fan and love his character. Really good.

Oh, and 3 Body Problem was extreeeemely good.

Yellowstone has turned into a guilty pleasure but seasons 1-4 are sokid. Season 1 if 1923 was very very good.

Landman may have promise

Appreciate it fellas… I loved breaking bad, better call saul and game of thrones. Anyone of you guys watch House of Dragons? I’ve heard very mixed reviews

It’s fine. It’s better than late Game of Thrones, but not as good as early Game of Thrones. S1 is better than S2 imo. But really it’s because of the novel they’re working with. S2 is just kinda slow. I think it’ll hold up better in a binge watch than it did waiting for each episode week to week.

That said, S2 was a lot of setup for S3, which should be pretty good based on what I know is coming.
