Last night, a Bears fan was talking trash about the LYONS, and bet me $200 that the bears would finish with a better record than the Lions
Super smart guy, but doesn’t really even watch football… Clearly has no idea what he’s talking about
During this conversation, I could feel some bullying going on… Usually I don’t even care about bets… And I don’t bet on things I’m not certain about… Last time I won two bets on Lions football and never charged them the money… Because I care more about the connection, and the lesson of betting against my lions
I don’t give a shit about the $200, and my friend is far more important to me than the money
The level of arrogance that he came with, though… I’m considering collecting this time
Most likely, I’ll just not charge him when the lions win 15 games next year
There’s your answer. If the bet or the attitude of the bet has the potential to interfere with your connection, just say no. It’s a complete sentence.
It sounds like your super smart guy suddenly stretched the familiar bounds of your established relationship. That happened to me recently and I was kinda waiting for him to revert to the person I’ve known for 15 years. That hasn’t happened. But after a few months I’ve come to accept this “new” person with enough echoes of old one left to avoid the nuclear option. I’m glad I took a breather from the high drama between my ears. 15 years is a chunk of time.
Bears fans are the most delusional in the NFL, by a WIDE margin.
I expect the Lions to bounceback, especially with that 4th place schedule. And the Bears to decline, with 1st Place schedule. But they dont care about small details like this.
Don’t worry about the connection. I have done this before. Collect the money and then spend it on something for the both of you together. That’s how you curtail someone from acting like a turd and keep the relationship live.
Once I took $200 from a friend in poker in a basement game at his house because he was bullying the pot. Gave him some cash to buy a bottle of blue label for his new basement bar at the end of the night. A little sugar with the medicine.
Yup and I actually saw some of the media heads picking Seattle last in the west. I guess if we knew we would lose the whole starting secondary it would have tempered expectations a little…..but probably not lol.
It’s why we play the games, season rarely go the way the media and fans predict prior to the season. W but we will have a better idea at the end of the summer.
Funny you say this, a opinion on a message board doesn’t have anything to do with life or misery that’s a little dramatic. It’s just talk about a team, some are giddy and everything sunshine and rainbows others are negative until proven other wise. Some call like they see it. That seems to bother you.
