I wouldn’t be surprised if we added the odd man out in the Cardinal backfield. Or someone else…I don’t think this unit is complete yet. Pacheco or someone else…Gibbs isn’t going to be handling the entire load.
And Atlantas supporting cast hurts his. I mean it’s not worth an argument but put both players on the same unit and Bijan is gonna win probably every category or close.
This isn’t a dis to our guy. I think he’s the second best in the league. I mean is it a surprise that our line was the weakest it’s been and Gibbs success rate suffers? I mean that’s basically my whole point here.

Meh. I’m fine with most NFL fans believing Bijan is a touch better than Gibbs.
I’m mean, it’s ridiculous to think you can account for all the variables at play in their respective situations, and then isolate their own stats and come up with a definitive determination of who’s the better player. But some enjoy that sort of discussion, so have it.
Gibbs is my guy, though. Just love his explosion. Can go the distance on every touch. And he’s much tougher than he gets credit for. Wouldn’t trade him straight up for Bijan, so there’s my answer.

TBH, Bijan and Gibbs two of the best in the league and whether 1 or 2 is your ranking that is fine. Reminds me of the E Smith vs Barry back in the day, well, if Barry had Emmet’s line just imagine what he could do etc etc etc

I agree Bijan is better but i do think Gibbs beats him out. Their game is similar, but also different. They both catch passes, but as much as I want Gibbs to be a 1,000 + 1,000 guy, i don’t think he will ever accomplish that while I think Bijan could. But I also don’t think Bijan would ever be a 2,000 yard rusher while I think Gibbs could.
Cool that both came from the same draft.
But right now CMAC is #1 over both and J Taylor is there too.

Gibbs stats get inflated (not in a bad way) by his speed and big play ability. Bijan doesn’t have that extra gear that Jahmyr has.
Put Bijan on this offense and our offense takes a small step backwards…and that’s not even arguable.

I like Gibbs explosive nature. And I think if the OC is clever you could see Gibbs get more pass receptions.
But Bijan does get more touches because ATL has fewer weapons.
I am not sure how one decides one is “clearly” better than the other.

Consensus sounds like it’s neck and neck to me…it’s more of a pick your flavor argument. I think they actually go toe to toe in almost every category. Gibbs wins the Home run threat ability while Bijan the better fit for carrying the load.

It’s the new 2026 version of Emmett vs. Barry. I think Gibbs is easily the best back we’ve had since Barry, and he takes over games like we watched Barry do. I prefer Gibbs, but Bijan is still a fantastic RB talent.

I am almost relieved by this. At least we now know the price tag.
I can’t imagine that we delay for very long.
But I do not like this as an accountant. But I do not see the play out, franchise tag, let go scenario working at all.

The Falcons have been one of the lowest scoring offenses since 2023. A backup running back scoring 15 touchdowns in that time is a pretty large portion of their scoring. I mean if you flip the two backs it’s Bijan who has better accumulative numbers. And then he’s “our guy,” and I guarantee everyone here will be preaching Bijan is better. Their situations just aren’t the same…
Falcons scoring ranks by season: 2023 (26th), 2024 (14th), 2025 (23rd)
Lions: 2023 (4th), 2024 (1st), 2025 (5th)
The PPG differential over that span is roughly ~10ppg. We are probably talking approximately ~60 more touchdowns scored than the falcons over that span. Probably closer to 65 as the falcons aren’t the lions in terms of kicking FGs and going for it.
I think it’s safe to say that both players are so good that if you flipped their situations, they would roughly produce the same as the other in each situation. And as I said earlier, if Bijan was the Lion you (and everyone else) would be saying Bijan is better because he would have the better accumulative statistics.
Based on my Crude calculations.
If they just used Tag as an option in 2028. Vs extended
2026 $5.7m v $9.7m
2027 $14.3m v $12.3m
2028 ~$16m v $14.5m
2029 ~$19 v $16.8m
The only advantage from a money standpoint
Is doing the tag option you owe nothing in 2030. Vs still ~$40m in deadcap+ cap hit with a contract.
But thats 2030s problem
The other advantage is that you are on a year to year IF something tragic were to happen.
None of this really matters because the Lions really don’t have leverage at this point. You need him if you are going to compete and you need him back quickly to minimize injury exposure. I would love to see them add $1.69 (moment of immaturity) to Bijan’s contract and let reporters suck on that.
