Overall I think most agree that Bijan is the top RB prospect in the draft, but I’m not talking about overall, I’m talking about for the Lions.
I think Bijan is a high end workhorse back. A guy you want to carry the ball 250+ times a game. He would clearly get the majority of carries on our team and essentially relegate Montgomery to more of a back up roll. Swift would still get the Swift carries/catches he did last year.
Gibbs, on the other hand, would be a perfect compliment to Montgomery. Montgomery would be your 250 carry guy (what we signed him for) and Gibbs would take over Swift’s roll (100 carries and 50+ catches). Swift, would likely be a draft day trade (once Gibbs was secured).
I think a trade back from 6 would still allow us to take Bijan and leave 18 for defense. Most of the “elite” defenders would already be gone by then.
I think a trade back from 18 to mid 20’s would still allow us to get Gibbs (an elite RB) as well as take an “elite” defender at 6.
There’s really only 2, one of those is surrounded by questions.
At this point, I’d rather take JSN at #6.
Take the best RB available at #18. Then go BPA the rest of the way. A DT and OG will be in there, day two, I’m sure.
If Carter is out of the equation, there is no elite talent left. You’re left with taking the best at their position.
Gotta take somebody. So far, everyone I’ve mentioned, someone has a problem with.
Outside the top 4 of this draft, the next 20 are all pretty much in the same teir.
Other receivers who didn’t have elite size or speed: Antonio Brown, Davante Adams, Chad Johnson, Andre Reed, Jerry Rice, Steph Diggs, Reggie Wayne, Sterling Sharpe, on and on and on.
He might not go top 10, true. But I’d bet a lot of money he’ll be the 1st receiver drafted. In fact I already have. It’s fine though, we disagree. I trust my evaluation, you trust yours.
I am certainly not trying to derail the thread, but I agree with both of you in a way. In a normal draft I think JSN would be rated alot lower. But I think he’s the kind of kid that goes high in a redraft and everyone claims they learned their lesson about downgrading guys like JSN.
It would be an interesting pick for us on a personal level. Not only do we have the Jamo angle. But Sun God seemed a little salty that JSN has an Amon-Ra St Brown comp but is considered a 1st round pick instead of a 4th rounder.
I really like Achane. I had no interest in him on paper because of the stereotype of those types of players. When I saw his physicality it surprised me. To me Tyjae Spears is why I would wait on RB. And even if I wanted Gibbs I would gamble on him falling into the 2nd round where its cheaper to acquire him. Because even if the gamble doesn’t pay off, there is always Tyjae Spears to fall back on.
In my opinion Gibbs is a perfect fit for the Lions but I only take him if he is there in the 2nd. If he is not there I take either Spears or Johnson somewhere i. The 3rd - 5th round. I could even see one of these guys as our target to trade up for with our 2 5th round picks.
To me my draft goes
6 - best DE on the board Anderson, Wilson, Murphy, Van Ness, Nolan Smith. After those guys the talent drop is significant
18 - Best DB Spoon, Gonzalez, Porter, Banks, maybe Branch
48 - wild depending on who falls Gibbs, Trent Simpson, Kancey, Mazi, AA, Drew Sanders, Campbell
55 - depends who we take at 48 but Campbell, Skinner, Benton, Ika, Avila or best DB available
81 - AT Perry, Tippman, Hooker (seems like a long shot), Laporta, Battle
Trade both 5th for a 4th - Spears or Johnson, Schoonmaker, Mingo
