I like the draft, I like the depth players, but at a certain point you have to take a step back and realize 99.99% of the moves happening right now will have no impact. No one picked up by another team will be missed, especially at QB. It’s all just a bunch of noise, and I just don’t see the point of lamenting one decision or the other too strongly.
The vet market can be impactful, but that’s not what we’re talking about.
I don’t like Blough or Martinez lol. As practice squad fodder they may as well be computer generated AI on Madden.
Well that’s good . Because I value your opinion with the draft and I was begining to get a little worried with some Blough love. I’ve seen enough of him to not ever want him on the field again.
Giddy? I think you’re misunderstanding. Having a strong opinion either way on a 4th string QB is crazy. These are spots that are easily rotated out and churned over and over throughout the course of the season. We’re talking about spots 60-70 on a roster.
Who cares if the Lions signed Blough vs. Martinez vs. anyone else? None of these guys are going to have an effect on the Lions season and if we’re in the position that they are due to injury, we’re already ■■■■■■.
Giddy is a bad way to put it , but it’s just with some you just don’t question any move Holmes makes. I mean no one was mad and not really even a strong opinion as you say. Just pointing out how bad he was and is, and we seen plenty of him, why not try someone better or hopefully better. Because of him being down the ladder it isn’t nothing to be upset about be you can still talk about it. I find it odd to go back there.
Lol idk Martinez can run a little and Blough can’t throw at all, he’s like a cross of bad Scott mitchel and a bad Jeff Garcia. Not very accurate and a slow ball.
He’s not great, and he’s 0-7 all time as a starter, so yeah I wouldn’t bank on him. But a few of those games were competitive. Only lost by 3 to the Packers with us and lost by one to the Falcons while with Arizona. And most of the games he’s started has been with bad, bad talent around him. If you put him into a good situation with a good line, I think he’s got a legit shot of winning games.
The entire point of bringing back Blough is to soften the blow of losing Sudfeld. I know some of you will hate to hear this but losing Sudfeld hurts - not because of what he provides on the field, but what he provides off of it in preparation and practice.
Adrian Martinez likely struggled picking up and knowing the playbook. If he had a good handle on it, or if Teddy was more experienced in our offense, we may not feel the need to have a #4 (once Hooker gets in there) that has a firm grasp on the playbook. Blough/Sudfeld are the type of player who help teach the playbook to others, especially new QBs to the system like Teddy and Hendon and provide Goff another ear to bounce ideas, sights, etc off in the QB room.
There is no one else out there right now who is better than Blough who, more importantly, knows our offense. That’s why Blough is back. You already have your developmental QB in Hooker. There is no reason to bring in another one who doesn’t have the physical tools Hooker already has.
I like the move for what it is. A guy they are comfortable with in the QB room, they know his strengths and weaknesses and he plays well with others. Someone who can, perhaps, be a pseudo coach for Hooker while the coaches are busy and he’s not getting reps while recovering. As long as he never sees the field, it works
Once the Lions acquired their best backup QB since Shaun Hill, the third QB discussion pretty much became a moot point. Some people seem to forget that the Lions aren’t planning on redshirting Hendon Hooker, but plan to get him reps whenever he’s ready. There’s the developmental QB. In a way, we’re really talking about the 4th QB.
