There were some plays where we didn’t want them substituting players.
Goff took his final kneel with 30 something seconds left, making it 4th down. TB still had a timeout
Right.
100 times out of 100 you’re going to spend it after the 1st kneel-down. They didn’t. It was over.
I could see Josh McDaniels pulling a move like that, though. Make them think you’re conceding so we can get the boys off the field, then calling a Timeout after 3rd down instead of 1st. That does sound very Patriot-way like.
I get it. I think we need to be smarter there though. We weren’t running the clock down. Maybe Bowles didn’t realize. But what if someone gets in his ear in time for him to call it on 4th down.
Several of you are on the right track. I’m reading it was one of those unwritten rules where Detroit had them beat so they agreed not to pull that stunt, because other teams remember that type of thing.
Tampa didn’t forget they just knew it was over an why maybe get someone hurt. The HC for Tampa knew what he was doing . Thats why Lions kneeled fast they both decided game over no mistake happened.
Bowles and Campbell were both 100% dialed into what was going on. If Bowles was going to use it, he uses after the 1st down kneeldown.
No coach signals the end by hanging onto that final TO, just to spend it after the 3rd down. That just doesn’t happen. If someone did, they would have to be from the Patriot tree. Even then, BB wouldn’t be the guy, just one of his lesser minions who don’t know how to coach, play or be decent human beings without his guidance.
Just went back and watched again. The lions screwed up the timing of the first kneel down which could have bitten them in the ass.
Whatever. It is done and Lions won. Maybe a small mess up but let’s not make it seem like a TD and 2 point conversion were imminent if TB called a timeout.
Listen, they snapped the ball at 1:29.
Bucs did not call timeout. That’s conceding they’re not going to cash it.
There was no screw-up, it was timing it to get off the field the fastest based on Bowles Conceding.
Listen, next time just kneel down with under 5 seconds left on the play clock and don’t count on the opponent to be a gentleman.
You got it.

seems like a lot of worry about “possibly” punting the ball to a team that wasn’t executing well on offense …… who would then have to operate a desperation drive with few seconds left… and No timeouts… score the TD… AND…. then get a 2 point conversion to boot.
Man…. being Lionized cuts deep…… ![]()

Leave it to Florio to send us down this hole.
Bowles laid down his King by not calling that timeout at 1:29. Only Florio would miss that and write about it. And now we’re bitching because we’re afraid that he was going to pick it back up after his opponent left the table.
Your honor, I would like to enter into evidence exhibit A— the lions history.
Just because the lions haven’t lost in such a way simply means enough time has not passed.
Bottom line, you can always get better and correct mistakes. Control EVERYTHING you can control.
I know the score board showed they had one but I believe they were charged an injury timeout at the 1:46 mark …. It was so loud at FF you couldn’t hear what the ref said regarding the clock times and timeout. As a result I do not think the scoreboard operator took it off the clock.
They were out of timeouts.
That’s what I wonder too. I really think they were out of TOs.
Oh well

I agree too. No way Todd doesn’t make us kick that field goal.
They came back from the 2:00 minute warning with 1 timeout in hand. There were no stoppages between the 2 minute mark and the INT.
