Both Detroit AND TB screwed up with time at the end of the game and nobody knew--Dan Campbell confirms

I just can’t fathom they wouldn’t make us kick the FG. No way he just conceded.

My last post on the matter.
At 1:29 Bowles could have called a timeout. This would have exhausted his timeouts without changing the outcome:
2nd down snap @ 1:29
-40
3rd down snap at :49
-40
4th down FG snap at :09.

Or, if he calls it at 1:29, you don’t kneel on 2nd or 3rd down, rather you move around a couple of seconds to get your math to zero.

Yeah i was confused why they didn’t call time as well.

I agree that it wasn’t much of a chance, but it was a chance. You almost never see any coach give up when they’ve got a chance.

Give up on your season. Would be the first time I can recall ever seeing it.

Once again, I agree with this. But we were not exhausting the play clock on every kneel

Right. Because he didn’t spend the timeout at 1:29, which told Dan he wasn’t going to put his players through an exercise in futility (so let’s just wrap this up, which we did)

Convincing others is also an exercise in futility. A bunch of nothing now anyways.

I could be wrong on the time but there was a point near the end of the game the ref stopped the game for TB due to injury. They adjusted the clock as a result. I believe TB was charged a timeout at that time but it was so loud you couldn’t hear what the ref said to the clock operator. He had to announce 3 times before the operator got the clock correct.

I believe Tampa was actually out of Time outs.

I’ll have to go back and look. The Bucs, I believe, called a timeout here:

(3:08 - 4th) J.Goff sacked at DET 47 for -4 yards (S.Barrett). PENALTY on TB-C.Davis, Illegal Use of Hands, 5 yards, enforced at TB 49 - No Play.

But it was rewarded back to them because the clock stopped as a result of the penalty.

I’m wondering if Bowles didn’t realize he had a timeout, when he actually did. OR they WERE charged a timeout, had none, and the TV people screwed it up by assuming it was rewarded back.

Yeah they announced that they gave that one back, so I don’t think that would be it (though could definitely be the source of the confusion).

They did. I rewatched it to make sure. If there was a miscount it was earlier.

The clock should not have stopped there then if TB was given TO back and at least 20 seconds run off clock. Would have been 25 second play clock and running clock after moving ball as Goff was sacked and was not an incomplete.

And in the game the clock did stop and not reatart until snap.

But didn’t the penalty stop the clock?

It should not stop clock. That would incentivize defense to go offsides or something on 4th and 10 etc to stop clock. Offense would choose to have clock run as it was a running clock when play ends.

But I could be wrong but that seems unfair if it stops a running clock.

Tbh, all too convoluted to give any ■■■■■, scoreboard.

They had to actually be out of timeouts.
Those that think the Bucs were conceding by not taking a timeout if they had one must be bots or something. There is ZERO chance that any coach would ever do that, down one score. Any coach that would would be out of a job TOMORROW and rightfully so.

This is what it feels like to be on the other side of pure idiocy.

It’s like taking the wind, but the other team is at fault

Maybe ghost of time management that haunts Ford field and used to torment Jim Caldwell decided to bother the other team
