Brad is a genius until you don't think he is?

That’s not my call, and they will use him as they see fit, which guaranteed is more than a 3rd down back!

Holmes didn’t waste the #12 pick on a 3rd down back….that’s just silly talk!

Yeah it sounds like Gibbs was in our top ten and Jack in our top 15.

I’m betting they didn’t have any other players with true 1st round grades by pick 18.

Campbell was in the next cluster of players and they liked him.

Excellent OP.

The mock draft community gets about 80% of picks and 60% of career projections completely wrong, yet all of that wrongness sets the expectation for every fanbase.

There are legitimate questions around the positional value of taking RB at 12 and LB at 18, but the proof will be in the pudding as it is with every draft pick.

Holmes and Campbell have earned our faith with what we’ve seen on the field, and they should keep it until what we see on the field forces a change.

Its strange to me. We complain about swift not being able to make interior runs… and stay healthy then use a really high pick on a rb that is under 200lbs. Then while the rest of the nfl is getting small and quick defensively, we drafted a mlb who is 250 lbs. His comp is Leighten Vander Esh… who despite his speed for his size, is still a liability on 3rd down… so he gets taken off the field some. We are also only 1 of 2 teams that spent first rounders on non impact positions. No guards, centers, safeties, lbs, only 1 te… and he was late to a team that already has a lot of impact guys…

I agree but I think positional value is a fluid thing. Just because other teams are unwilling to draft certain players based their “perceived value” doesn’t mean that everyone should follow suit. Some time people value things differently based on how the team is set up…we just seem to really want balance and I think we obtained that.

It is just kinda nice to have talent on the roster so we have the flexibility to be unconventional with our approach and get top player at their position and not conforming to what others value.

Welp, here’s the lowdown on Gibbs and Campbell:

So the only other team that wanted an off the ball LB is the one that also drafted a RB high (although at least he’s a top talent)

I watched a lot of Alabama games so I’m not really basing my disapporval on mock drafts or anything of that sort. I legitimately feel it’s a very poor pick. But we’ll see what they can do with him. Perhaps they can scheme for him. But there was no reason to draft him that high IMO. Someone else takes him that high, then great we’ll take Achane later.

I think Jman posted a mock that had Spoon, Gibbs, Campbell - I believe that is probably close. So when Seattle took Spoon then Brad picked up and extra draft pick and then took his next two players on their board. Probably 3/4 slots higher than planned but I don’t think they really care. They got “their” guys. Both these guys should be really good players and make the team better. That is all you can ask for in a draft. Are we better now than we were yesterday? I think the answer is yes and apparently BH does too.

@Nate and @TCLion - do not fret my brothers, Three years from now, after these guys do real well, you will start seeing posts that will say: I was totally with Brad on Gibbs - in fact we got lucky he was there at 12. And how Captain Jack was such a steal, everyone also thought he fell into our laps.

Actually, Captain Jack got me high last night!

So since everyone seems to agree that Charlie Campbell is pretty wired in… The Jets were set to take J Gibbs at #15… He also stated the Falcons were trading back into 1 to get Jack Campbell…

  • I would like everyone to scroll down the twitter feed… See how many comments guys like Jalen Ramsey and RG3 made on behalf of Gibbs and how scary he will be to defend in the ACTUAL NFL… the internet mock draft world…

I can absolutely assure you that when team play the Giants they are trying to figure out how to stop Saquon… not how to gameplan around Andrew Thomas…

Anyone can bash Staley’s coaching style if they choose, but Swaggy sure improved and thrived with him… Anyone think it’s possible that maybe Swift was simply soft and lacked vision? Staley knew the right RB could run for 1,500 yards behind this OL…

Here is my prediction…

Jack Campbell 135 tackles… 2 sacks… 2 ints… 2 fumble recoveries… 1 TD…

J Gibbs… 150 carries for 790 yards and 55 catches for 500 yards and 7 TDs

D Montgomery… 240 carries for 1100 yards and 35 catches for 300 yards and 8 TDs

Justin Jackson (I think he’s back the minute we trade Swift) 50 carries for 225 yards and 10 catches for 80 yards with 1 TD…

Amon Ra will likely have 95 catches for 1100 yards and 7 TDs

Jamo will be around 35 catches for 650 yards and 5 TDs

Reynolds will be around 40 catches for 550 yards and 3 TDs

M Jones Jr will be around 35 catches for 400 yards and 2 TDs

Raymond will be around 30 catches for 400 yards and 2 TDs

add 900 yards receiving and 5 TDs receiving from our RBs…

  • TE room 70 catches for 800 yards and 8 TDs… Goff 4,800 yards and 32 TDs with 11 ints…

Very well said young man!

I feel like the NFL draft as a whole is a “risky proposition” I don’t think there’s a specific spot that hits all the time or not. I feel as though you go for your guy (unless your guy is a TE at 8) and hope to god he hits. There’s such a hard transition to the NFL for some “can’t miss prospects” that so many guys fail at this level. If Gibbs and Jack hit then we are all happy regardless.

I just don’t get it… not only did we take 2 non impact positions with high picks… but the choices are also not great. We don’t like swift because he misses runs inside and can’t stay healthy… so we replaced him with a dude under 200lbs. So many examples of small RBs that don’t make it. The number of "tiny playmaking rbs that have been drafted and bust… CJ Spiller, Jahvid Best, Clyde Edwards Helaire, David Wilson, Josepth Addai, Deangelo williams (one that worked out) In the 2nd and 3rd round there have been another small select few that have. (jamal Charles)

Then we took a 250lb massive linebacker at 18. Yes he tested quick… but he is a throwback linebacker. Only like 3 guys that size have made the probowl in the last 25 years at ilb. Tremaine edmunds, Jamie Collins and Jeremiah trotter. The great modern lbs are 230-235. The game is just too spread out and fast to be that big. I hope he proves me wrong… Edmunds was a special athlete who is definitely faster

Yeah but Chenal’s was even higher:

I think there are two main reasons.

  1. Campbell was a better player than Chenal. More instinctive anyway, especially in zone coverage. Chenal is a badass thumper against the run but looks lost against the pass.

  2. Campbell’s intangibles. I don’t know what Chenal was like off-the-field, but we can tell by all the post-draft interviews that our staff had a major man crush on Campbell. That’s what makes this so difficult, there’s no way for us to know who they’re gonna fall in love with. We can find the leaders, the captains, the guys everyone says works hard, but without listening to the interviews we’ll never know for certain.

We are going to take Benton and Dexter

I would say that time will tell. Grading drafts the same night that they occur is kind of silly. I like Gibbs and wished we could’ve gotten him in the 2nd but there are rumors that NE, Washington, and the Jets were all interested. What if Gibbs turns out to be Kamara part 2 and Campbell is a five time pro bowler? Then we look back and say Brad knocked it out of the park.
