Browns DC Jim Schwartz on being a HC again: 'You always aspire to the top of the profession'

That whole medical staff that was on the Lions roster is GONE, as well they should be.

The successive concussions he got in college in like back to back weeks did him in. It’s why I worry about Tua. I hate the way they ignored his clear injuries. To be honest, I’m concerned for Jokers, too. If there was a vet I rested this week, it’s him.

I don’t think the lions reputation was pay to win. I think it was run like an asset with money they had to spend and then other careful community investments

And then what they didn’t know or care to learn because winning wasn’t the biggest priority

Is what the players saw … the contract they offered Suh was money they had to spend.

Ineptitude, running business like an asset when you need to pay to win and want to win and winning not being the top priority are among the reasons.

Maybe with Sheila as owner , Schwartz hits a guiderail and matured while with the lions never spiraling out of control because the owner would hold Jim accountable.

I see Sheila as much different with a new set of priorities and her involvement to keep the squad on their toes. Like she cares

Yeah, I don’t get it either. It’s a good thing the Patriots and Broncos didn’t let the first time stints stop them from hiring Bill Belichick and Mike Shanahan.

Schwartz has been phenomenal at every DC stop he has had since leaving the Lions. He has earned another shot. People can grow and learn. That’s all part of life.

Schwarts has them 11th in points and 1st in yards…

That’s with his offense giving the ball away more than any other team in the league.

He’s a very good D.C.

Well there’s the fact those guys are bill billicheck and Mike Shanahan and it didn’t take them 12 years to get rehired

This reads like you’re saying Schwartz is on their level if only a team gave him a second chance yet there’s plenty example of guys who flamed out once and got a second chance and proved to still be mediocre. Dan Campbell is more exception than the rule in terms of second chances

From the thread , y’all have made a fine case for Schwartz. He’s been successful DC and has the learnings of an x head coach.

I think it reads more that we don’t know either way and there are two, obviously on the high end of success, on why you consider that people can grow and improve.

It isn’t an absolute either way.

Schwartz reminds me of Jerry Glanville. Defensive guru, aggressive, arrogant, players coaches whose teams played with a reckless edge that matched their personalities. Considering the job he did with the Detroit rebuild, I’m surprised he still hasn’t been hired again as a HC.

The failure rate for an NFL HC is incredibly high period. I’m saying writing someone off simply because their first stint didn’t work out doesn’t seem wise to me. I have no idea if Schwartz would be a success in a second stint, but I would say he’s done enough since leaving the Lions to warrant a second look. His resume stacks up well against every other name being floated.

If I were an NFL owner I would bring Schwartz in and talk to him about his experience. I would ask him why he feels things didn’t work in Detroit, and what he feels he did right and wrong. Kick the tires.

It’s my Schwartz half empty bias for him but I’m working on it.
I’d love to get an insiders story of the lions since 0-16

That’s about when I found on line fan forums and theories and assumptions have been broken down so much , that it would be interesting to hear somebody’s truth who was there.

Dennis Allen is another example. Amy Trask a pretty respected nfl executive

“It appeared to me, and I’m not putting words in a player’s mouth, but players would do the minimum for him,” Trask said, contrasting Allen with coaches that players would run through a wall for. “Nobody’s running through a wall for him.”

Article goes on to mention his problems with current and former past good players …

Why does a guy like him get a second chance ? And is he doing a good job with it ?
Is his experience paying off or is he what he’s always been ?

My guess is Allen will be fired at some point. That final play against the Falcons is something I think is a sign this is going to end badly at some point. I can’t imagine Dan Campbell’s players ignoring a play call of his. At the same time I can’t imagine Dan Campbell being tone deaf to his locker room.

I don’t know if Schwartz would be a success with a second stint, I just wouldn’t write him off because the first one didn’t go right. I’d sit down with him and flush that out.

This is what seems pretty cool about Dan’s run right now imo

Funny he did this since the last time the HC rumors swirled he actually implied he was closer to retirement than anything else.

I will always believe in JS. He’s my favorite Lions coach in my lifetime.

If Schwartz made himself eligible instead of putting out the word that he wasn’t interested…it shows how stupid teams are when the make their hires. The idea that the string of clowns that got hired over Schwartz is case and point.

He would get fired again because most owner lack patience. Not sure why would any coach work for Carolinas owner unless he’s offering a boat load of cash.
