Caleb Williams has most yards by Bears QB in 15 years

There’s a lot of Lions fans who think the Bears made a mistake when drafting Williams. I’m in the wait and see camp. But you can’t deny Williams has had plenty of rookie struggles.

But when I talk to Bears fans their very excited and optimistic about Williams.

…Why?

Through the first 3 games he has the most yards by any Bear QB in 15 years.

He just had his first career 300 yard game. With 2TDs and 2INTS too.

He is just 29 yards behind Mahomes in passing yards.

He is ahead of Burrows, Rogers, Cousins, Watson, Fields, Tua, Herbert, Lawrence, Allen, and Love in passing yards.

The Bears initiated a wrist band device this week to call in the plays to give Caleb more time at the LOS to diagnose plays and this seems to have helped him out.

The Bears fans that I know believe he has now arrived and that they just need an OL. So, the league should be on notice.

What do you really think?

I think wait and see too. Their Oline doesn’t help.
Yet, I saw that he has the most passing yard in a single game than anybody this season so far.

Ditto.

They are averaging 2.2 ypc in tge run game

Swift got a 24 mil 3 year contract, and has like 68 yards rushing through 3 games.

Guess what the bears are complaining about?

Caleb has looked about as bad as a QB can look at times. He does flash here and there, but with what I’ve seen so far, he is a long way from a generational QB. I am less worried today than I was a month ago.

He reminds me of Kyler w/o the joystick moves.

Not generational, but clearly a starter level guy.

He is gonna take awhile to adjust to NFL size/speed.

Who they should really be shitting on is Anthony Richardson and Jaylen McDaniels. Those guys are running backs who csn pop off a cannon shot once in awhile. But pass as a QB?

And yet both of them are preferable to Will Levis.

Watched half of bears and half of pack games yesterday to get a feel for the division foes.

I left that half feeling slightly uneasy. Not because of what Williams will do this year but because he showed he has some intangibles to build on and I worry that once he has adjusted to game speed (year 2 or 3) that he is going to be a solid NFL qb.

What I think he will need to overcome is the likely firing of his coach if they don’t perform which will likely mean he gets a new scheme.

Their running game was dog crap yesterday and protection was suspect.

Its way to early to make a prediction on the pick but I could definitely see some of the things that made him a top pick in the little bits of him I watched.

It’s very easy to get enjoyment from watching Will Levis struggle. His reaction at the draft just screamed, I’m a douche bag. I love watching his coach after every pick six, staring him down and saying, what the ■■■■ are you doing? :joy::joy:

My thoughts are the same of what I said before the year started. Williams is a fraud. Yes, Chicago’s offensive line is bad right now. However, ALL we heard before the year started was “Caleb Williams is coming into the best possible position for ANY rookie quarterback.” You don’t get to now change the narrative and say “Well, it’s the offensive line’s fault.”

Caleb’s passing yards were classic Stat Padford. Remember, Indianapolis literally has the worst defense in the NFL. Remember that they also lost their best defensive lineman. Remember, they were playing Anthony Richardson, who him and Bryce Young are the only 2 starters playing worse than Caleb.

If there was any game where Williams was supposed to win, it was this one. Caleb basically just had to not lose the game. He then proceeds to throw terrible picks, and let Indy build a lead. Caleb’s “damage” came when Indy started playing prevent defense, which is hilarious because they literally can’t prevent anything.

Here is the quick answer. Caleb is still trying to do the Johnny Manziel, run around and throw up prayers. Yes, the offensive line is playing badly. You know who else is causing those pressures to happen? Caleb Williams, holding the ball for WAY too long. You know who is missing WIDE open throws that any NFL QB has to make? Caleb Williams. You know who keeps running backwards and spinning in circles giving up tons of yards? Caleb Williams.

Right now Caleb’s only true positive “offense” is throwing seam routes to Kmet, and throwing prayers to Odunze. Caleb’s first TD pass was good, nice fade route. That was solid execution. The second TD was more Indy’s defense being Indy and was a WIDE open throw, again in garbage time.

Chicago took the cheese, and believed that once again ONE player could turn their whole franchise around. Instead of continuing to develop and build a team that already has a borderline and I will say top tier defense, they went out and got splash guys. A fancy QB, a WR compliment, traded for Keenan Allen, signed Swift. They chose to spend all of their resources on outside perimeter players. What they didn’t do was fix what everyone said has been a main weakness, the offensive line. This was also why I didn’t want Harbaugh to go to Chicago, the first thing he would build there is their offensive line.

Caleb’s issue that will kill him in the NFL is his attitude. He has a piss poor attitude, and poor work ethic. He is a mental midget, and teammates see stuff like that. Coddled Caleb has a lot to learn about life in the NFL, and right now people making excuses for him is only going to make it worse. He needs to learn how to play NFL QB which is stop running backwards, stop throwing prayers into triple coverage, and learn how to read a damn defense.

Quick side note: I do find it funny that Mahomes name was brought up for a stat comparison. That says nothing about Caleb Williams, and everything about how shitty the Chiefs offense has been. Which, I’ve been saying since before the season started. As I said, look at the numbers from last year. Mahomes has been more Meh-homes or Mid-homes. Hell, he was getting outplayed by Russell Wilson, who is 3rd string in Pittsburgh.

You had to have watched the second half, soft defense, then. Because if you would’ve watched the first half I don’t think you would come to any other conclusion than he was dog shit on a stick.

Chitcagos best running back is r johnson. They drafted him last yr and like normal supid chitcago ways they dont feed him the ball. Plus they sign swift. Whoever gets him on his 2nd contract will get a stud like monty who they also misused.

Don’t forget Will Levis. I’m assuming his play is so bad you just erased him from your memory.

Bryce Young is no longer a starter.

Andy Dalton is better than all these schlubs.

Anthony Richardson was the youngest starting qb in the league for the 2nd season in a row… game 1! Think about that. He will be fine once he gets his college 30 starts under him. He needs to get reps and wont get those on the bench.

He was, but his poor play lost him the job. As noted above, you can add Will Levis to the bottom feeders. Yes, right now Caleb Williams in my eyes is one of the bottom 5 NFL qb’s. He has been terrible.

I had Sunday Ticket and watched the game because against Indy’s defense and Anthony Richardson, I figured this would be the game where Williams would do one thing right and everyone would jump back on the bandwagon. Instead, he looked worse than expected. Even the announcers were saying, there’s too many negative plays. That are not offensive line related, it’s Caleb himself. People defending Williams are just the hopium laced Bears fans, or people who are only looking at the stat line and saying “Hey, progress!” Look at the stats before the 4th quarter, and you will see how terrible he was playing.

Boy, I don’t know. I watched that whole game yesterday and the mistakes he was making were brutally bad. Yes, Chicago has a decent defense, but I have a hard time thinking that guy will ever be consistent enough to go deep into the playoffs. Once he gets nicked up and can’t run, it’s over. That’s the only thing that makes him truly dangerous. He has tremendous arm strength… I’ll give him that. But can he win consistently by heaving it up 60 yards while firing 10 yarders everywhere but his reciever’s hands?

I think the Bears, Titans, and Commanders need to remember that most hot shot rookie QBs spend their first season getting extra servings of humble pie. You might as well toss Richardson in as well since he missed most of his rookie season. It’s way too early to tell if any of them are busts unless they go full Ryan Leaf and have a mental breakdown.
