Looks like we will be playing Caleb Williams a bunch as it looks like the Bears will take him #1 over all.
Caleb Williams showed up a day late to the combine. Will only do interviews. Will be one of the only players to not do medicals at the combine.
To me Caleb Williams believes he is above it all. I get not working out he doesn’t have to do that. But not getting measured or doing medicals is not normal.
He was shown crying to his mom when his team lost. He paints his nails which is a little odd for a football player.
I think he measures under 6’1” I don’t think he is as good as everyone says he is. The Patrick Mahomes comparison need to stop. I think he could be a bust.
I find it absurd that I’m going to be on an island in my love of Caleb Williams as a prospect. He’s a generational guy imo, but everyone hates him cause he paints his fingernails, cries on the sideline, and “isn’t a leader.”
I’m with you, kids a generational talent. It’s hilarious and kinda sad that two of the reasons op states as proof he’s a poor man’s Baker Mayfield are he cried with his mom and wears fingernail polish.
I mean think about that, that’s as moronic as it gets.
I saw a stat the other day that he was something like 35-0 when his team gave up fewer than 30 something points. This kid didn’t underperform causing them to lose, he gave everything he had but his defense was one of the worst ever. He cried because he was ■■■■■■■ heartbroken, would you rather him laugh it off? My buddies son paints his nails, he was an all state bball player in Nevada, it’s not my thing but kids do it, nbd.
I hope like hell the bears trade out of #1 because he will come back to haunt us. Williams is just a different cat but don’t let that fool you.
If he was refusing to do them altogether it would give me pause, but he’s gonna do them for the individual teams which actually seems like a bigger hassle to me. It would be easier just to do it once in Indy. I suspect there’s some downside to it and it’s agent driven.
He doesn’t have an agent. He is above having a certified agent. Probably why he was late to the combine. Who ever is advising him is not doing so well.
Admittedly I haven’t watched him at all and have an extreme bias against USC. You can’t spell suck without a U S C.
My opinion is based more on how he has handled off the field situations and they definitely speak to a problem child. Josh Rosen had a lot of this exact same stuff when he was coming out. A guy that won’t listen or take the best to coaching. A guy that is about him first.
USC hasn’t traditionally had a lot of great NFL QBs considering how many 5 star blue chip national championship caliber teams they’ve had. Will Caleb Williams break the mold? He sure does seem different.
Cal is nearly always a poor football program so if a guy is a game changing light there (Rodgers, Goff, and to a lesser extent Boller), you know he’s going to be good in the NFL.
On the other hand it feels like USC has had so many drafted QBs and who has done anything? Palmer? Sanchez? Lienart?
As to Aman Ra St. Brown. That dude is more in the mold of a Cal Bear. I’m going to adopt him from USC and give them MeShaun Jackson as they should have gone to opposite schools.
Surely Stroud taught us about the helmet scouting.
I hated Rosen as a prospect, ranked him as a 5th rounder because of the things you mentioned. But they’re very different imo. Rosen just didn’t care. He wouldn’t try hard, he just shrugged it off when the lose. Caleb is out there playing hard no matter how far they’re down, and he cries when they lose. Very different psychological profiles imo.
Was Boller good in the NFL? Davis Webb?
I’m no USC apologist… in fact I think they’re behind the downfall of the Pac 12 so I kinda hate them, but this is about Caleb as a prospect, not about where he went to school. If he was coming into the league from Oklahoma would you feel differently? All he did was follow his coach.
The Bears have to take a QB. They’ll get laughed at if they bring back Fields, for good reason. One of these QBs is bound to hit. And some will bust. I don’t have much faith in the Bears picking the right one. But blind luck is real.
Boller was mediocre at Cal and the NFL. Davis Webb I actually expected to be a bit better in the NFL. He stuck around as a camp arm for a while but ultimately couldn’t cut it. At Cal, he looked a lot like Goff… just not as good.
As to your Oklahoma question, interesting choice as wasn’t Lincoln Riley the coach for Baker Mayfield there as well? Jeff Tedford had a bad reputation of his QBs being first round busts (I think the Lions had Harrington from him in Oregon) until Rodgers broke the mold.
A really good coach can create a good system and ask the player to do limited things in that system and that QB can be really successful. This doesn’t work as well in the NFL where teams study tendencies and can counter what you like to do so you better be able to do a lot of things.
We’ve seen Kingsbury and Chip Kelly have awesome offenses that fizzle out in College and even more so in the NFL by the end of the season. System coaches.
He looks a lot like Russell Wilson in his prime. Savvy runner and extends plays. GREAT over the top and rainbow passes. Not the best decision making with face to face pressure.
Looks like a guy with the tools to be a decent starter in the league. Looks like a system QB at this time so he’d need a good offensive coach/system until he can adapt to playing a more complete NFL game.
