This is what my doctor said…. She told me explicitly to double my protein and continue to workout but I had to be aware of muscle loss… which I’m aware of from researching long term fasting…
Made in or around 2017 and for diabetics as noted above.
2020ish… they made Zepbound for simple obesity and chronic sleep apnea which I have as well… started the first four shots at 2.5, now on 5 for the next four. Next week we will discuss staying at 5 or jumping to 7.5…. But then I hear about folks “living on 15?!!!”…. That’s way too much long term imho
Also - a positive specific to Zepbound…. My doctor says that I’m the last three years feedback is showing, when used correctly, it is actually helping the pancreas and liver function more efficiently…
Now my ignorant butt thinks it’s simply the fact folks are now, by default, not eating as much crap processed food and thus the body is simply healing itself
Like I mentioned it is like a chemically induced fast
I really can’t stand Bill Maher, and I wouldn’t put a ton of weight into Jillian Michaels on this topic either. She has a financial and emotional investment in a very specific fitness and weight-loss culture that GLP medications are disrupting.
I think once more time passes, GLP-class medications are going to be seen as much bigger than just “weight loss drugs.” Beyond obesity and diabetes prevention, there’s already growing evidence they may have real applications in addiction treatment and compulsive behavior reduction.
A lot of people report that it’s not just “food noise” disappearing - cravings for alcohol, cocaine, and other compulsive behaviors seem to diminish as well. That’s potentially a huge development.
That said, there are caveats people should take seriously. When you eat significantly less food, you’re also usually taking in less hydration, fewer electrolytes, less protein, and less fiber. People using GLPs should be intentional about hydration, electrolyte balance, protein intake, and digestive health rather than assuming the medication alone does all the work.
Seeing this trend; and having worked in the beverage industry for 20 years, I’ve actually been experimenting with a gentle electrolyte blend specifically designed around these issues - something easier to drink when appetite is low or your stomach feels sensitive. Most hydration products are either too sugary, too intense, or taste like a chemistry set. I’ve also added magnesium glycinate, HMB and P5P for Gi, nausea support as well as a guard against muscle loss
SO I learned along time ago that a big risk factor for colon cancer is “bowel transit time”. i.e. constipation makes fecal carcinogens stay in the bowel longer. GLP-1 meds act by slowing bowel transit time..enhancing that “full” feeling. Just waiting for the first studies of GLP-1 users and colon cancer — seems like such a no-brainer.
It’s a smart thing to be aware of. There’s also a trend of colon cancer occurring more often in the younger generation. I think if anyone dives into GLP use, something that will affect the body so profoundly, they should see it as part of a wholistic treatment - and accompany it with shifting from a diet of french fries and smash burgers to more greens and lean proteins
It’s been trending this way for a while now. Globally, before the rise of GLP. sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and poor diet are the suspects.
Perhaps if someone hits an inflection point in their life that they start investing financially and emotionally into a GLP, they will also invest in supporting lifestyle changes. exercise, diet…
I saw a video a few weeks ago from Europe about how potatoe farmers are struggling to sell all their potatoes because of GLP. The one guy had about 134 thousand dollars worth of potatoes he was going to have to give to food banks or feed to his animals because there was no market for them.
So I am on a really low dose .05 of GLP for my diabetes. Drs. put me on it before and I lost 40LB almost instantly but most of it was muscle. It was shocking and I stopped taking it. Fast forward a few years and they wanted to put me back on it. I agreed only if the dose was low and also now I know to eat a lot of protein and exercise my muscles. So far am losing very slowly (1 to 1.5 lb per week) and it seems to be fat. It definitely does take away food cravings and my BP is very stable.
