I hear that from a friend who is a casual Niners fan too. He refers to Kyle as The Rat, though Mike was the original Rat, so Kyle should be Rat 2.0. He was also miffed when the Niners came back against the Lions last season because he’s always sure that Kyle will choke at critical moments.
I have a buddy who is a big 49ers fan and also hates Shanahan. It has to do with the fact that Shanahan loses the same way, every…single…time. He gets a good lead, and then sits on it. Shanhanan has a good offensive scheme, but he thinks he has a brilliant offensive scheme that cannot be stopped. When teams stop it, Shanahan has no answers.
The big thing for the 49ers is they rebuilt quickly because they rebuilt on the offensive line and defensive line. With John Lynch though, the past few seasons they are chasing outside skill positions. They are also wasting high draft picks like using a 3rd on Jake Moody. As bad as using a third on a kicker was, this was also a draft they didn’t have much capital to begin with. The offensive line has lost a lot of talent over the past few years, and the 49ers have thrown BIG money to the outside skill positions without replenishing much. I actually do think the 49ers are in some trouble and have a real decision coming up with Purdy.
Between Shanahans handling of the QB position and disregard for special teams I’m not sure he gets it done in SF. Could almost be an Andy Reid situation if goes to a new team but he needs to evolve as a coach. Something just seems off with the whole situation. They had a bad offseason and it had a lot to do with problems in the regular season.
An NFL player (or in any sport) doesn’t need clear expectations to do their job. They can complain afterwards, and it may affect their play, but if you are suited up, you are to be a pro and play when called upon. End of story.
I gotta agree with @Bols on this one. I don’t think we’d even consider a guy capable of quitting on his team like that. Especially not once he’s put it on his resume. Not a chance. He’s getting publicly roasted by his teammates, what would our guys think if we brought him in?
I have a buddy who’s a Steelers fan… Hates Tomlin… I’m like, a SB? Never had a season under .500? His response… Yeah, that’s what we want, average, with an eye roll… I just shake my head at the delusional notion that Tomlin is an average coach.
And he’s being paid 5 million this year… Sure ur frustrated not starting, but the team needs you in 3rd quarter of a must win game. He quit on his teaammates. Pretty hard to count on the dude ever again. Kittle’s comments are spot on.
“It’s just dumb. It’s just stupid. It’s very immature,” tight end George Kittle told the media, via 95.7 The Game. “I just don’t see how you could do something like that to your team.”
Those are season averages for 22, 23 and this year thus far. One player is slightly better than the other, but they’re close. Both players play for an offensive Guru coach, have been to a SB in their career, have a great running game and OL, and both players have the national criticism of struggling when things aren’t perfect.
One of them you just said can carry the load playing “real QB” and the other is a 25 year old Brock Purdy. I’d say they’re both very capable of being successful in the right system with the right coach.
If a QB loses his best OL, WR and both RBs… He’s going to struggle… Imagine Goff without Sewell, ARSB and Gibbs/Monty
I don’t understand it… Playing the game is the best part… You go through the grind of preparing, practicing, healing, just to make it to the game… And when you get a chance to go out there, you throw all that work into the trash and say, nah, my anger is greater than all that AND my teammate’s sacrifices as well… Young man, you need some perspective.
And he’s a 31 year old, 9 year nfl vet. I might expect it from an immature rookie. He was a team captain with the Packers even.
Remember Jamie Collins back in 2021 not even trying on the field. He didn’t actually quit, but he basically did…we cut him soon afterwards. Coach Campbell has no time for that shit.
I think there wont be hate between Shanny and 49ers fans, but he struggles and struggles to get over the proverbial hump
28-3, losing to the Chiefs twice in heartbreakers
Like water crashing into rock, it wears and tears over time. The Fans are starting to get impatient, they have seen his failures, and its the same thing every single time, its always the lack of adaptation, always struggling when they are not ahead.
like Andy Reid in Philly, i dont think there will be hatred or lost love, or Bill’s time in NE, but nothing lasts forever and i can honestly see that the same frustrations that mounted for both them, is now happening to Shanahan, and i think if he cant do it next year, his seat will be on fire, and for good reason at this point.
McDermott in Buffalo may be another one… How often can you lose in the divisional round and still keep your job?
Marty Schottenheimer in San Diego… 14-2 in the regular season, fired after one and done in the playoffs. Post season failure will end a good HC’s tenure if it carries on for too long.
Jimmy G put up big numbers too. Is he a bonafide good drop back QB?
Stats dont tell the whole story. Look at S.Barkley now compared to the Giants. Again, I like Purdy. But his limitations at the QB position are becoming more obvious.
