I am absolutely rooting for this outcome, and I’m almost sure I’d be going to that game.
Alabama vs. OSU? Is it OK for me to root for neither team to advance?
Who you rooting for if that happens
If Alabama leaps frog SMU then they should just change the whole playoff next year to SEC and Big10 teams only.
Here is my take, if Alabama had somehow gotten into the SEC championship they would have most likely lost and not been in the playoff with 4 loses
Also how do you penalize SMU , ranked 8th, for losing a last second game in the ACC championship?
Just my opinion, I don’t think any 3 lose team should be in the playoffs in a at large spot
Well again for me it is a clear 3 horse race
Texas
Georgia
Oregon
These 3 teams appear way better than the rest.
So I mean SMU and Bama both could have earned their way in. Now they leave it up to a popularity vote. Shame on them both
I feel like the committee can’t really win by picking either Alabama or SMU. Both have their drawbacks and start bad precedents. Alabama has three losses. One to Vandivelt, the other a bad loss to Alabama. SMU hasn’t really played anybody and won. Pittsburg? Louisville? I think Alabama probably wipes SMU but at least the committe will be debating the 12th and 13th most deserving team rather than 4 and 5. That in of itself is an improvement.
I don’t who wins as long as it’s not none of the pac 12 teams in the big 10. I hate Oregon and I dislike o$u.
Picking teams is a joke because how to you determine which conference is superior? The eye test doesn’t mean shit because any of these teams can be beat on a neutral field
It is an improvement but Alabama just lost to OK 24-6. This wasn’t a early season loss, this was just 2 weeks ago!
Add in the Vandy loss and I just don’t see how you can put them in with 3 losses.
Like I said if they do then just make the damn playoffs between the SEC and Big10 or at least come right out and say all at large bids will come from the SEC and Big10 and the other conferences have to be champions
Georgia, been living near the campus for 27years and have become my second team. Now, if they lose then just want fun games the rest of the way.
Multiple 3 loss teams would have been in a 12 team playoff throughout the time span of the 4 team playoff. It’s going to happen where a 3 loss team gets in. It’s just a matter of when, not if.
It’s honestly pretty remarkable that we have enough teams this year to technically not have any 3 loss at large teams.
That said, given SMU’s second half performance last night, I don’t see how you can leave them out.
This was what I wanted to happen, ie Clemson winning in a tight game, just to see what happens next.
Alabama has two bad losses, SMU hasn’t played anyone and playing in the title game now eliminates them while AL and IU sit at home and get in… which I do understand btw.
I was rooting for chaos and got it…
I agree. Its a tough job for the selection committee this year. I don’t think any of these team are a juggernaut. Teams like Indiana, Notre Dame, and Boise don’t really have a lot of quality wins. But if all the teams in the top 5 are Big Ten or SEC its hard to get a quality win. Indiana avoided both Penn State and Oregon. Normally Michigan would be considered a highly ranked opponent. And Washington. So much about this time of year is who has the hot hand. UGA looked like pretty tough on D. Oregon looks to have the best O. I would have said Texas too, but sheesh they looked bad (UGA’s defense had something to do with it). Ohio State has some balance. Michigan proved a good defensive effort up front can stifle their decimated OLine though.
I’m just rooting for something crazy to happen.
I will always root for Big 10 teams to win in post-season games.
Even if that team is OSU.
At this point, Oregon still doesn’t feel like a big 10 team to me. Maybe that will change when we get a little history behind us.
Sorry I meant this year, should have qualified that. I understand each year will be different.
Like I posted in another post, the OK loss just 2 weeks ago (24-6) should have put a nail in AL coffin for making the playoffs, not sure how it didn’t considering they also loss to Vandy
Yea, not me, no conference loyalty whatsoever, EVER.
Skattebo reminds me of D-Moe. Live watching him play
Same, as crazy as it sounds, my three favorite teams are:
- Ohio State
- Michigan State - except when they play OSU
- Michigan - except in the Big Ten I won’t root for them.
IMO Alabama is probably the better team.
-but-
The committee are the ones who ranked SMU that high to begin with, and they also stated that they were not going to punish teams that lost their conference championship.
So they kind of put themselves in this pickle.
