This is a good hire for them, but again it’s also a very bad look for college football. Chip Kelly just gave up a head coaching job at a Big Ten rival to be a coordinator. Outside of Jim Harbaugh, no one has publicly been as critical of the current state of college football than Chip Kelly.
Wow. Coordinator for OSU is better than head coach for UCLA? That is not what I would expect.
Chip Kelly doesn’t like to recruit. I think he hates it even more now that as HC he has to recruit his roster 24/7. My guess is he would rather that be Day’s problem. If the conferences don’t get some rules in place, the game is going to rapidly change.
Great hire for OSU. His triple option should be very interesting with OSU’s talent and speed. They will be very high tempo.
Yeah, Dude hates recruiting and probably feels he won’t have to much at tOSU. I hope Michigan proves us wrong but tOSU and Oregon look like they should be the two best teams in the conference and this doesn’t change anything either way. Going forward, we will see. His dislike of recruiting is famous though.
That’s a really good hire.
OSU always has talent so Chip knows he’s going to have the horses for his system.
His Oregon team offenses were ridiculous and his first year in Philly was solid as well. Guess I am wait and see how much he has left origination wise. He was a really good OC for New Hampshire and Oregon though.
He’s a good fit for Day. Day played for him and coached for him. It gives him a trusted coordinator.
wow… UCLA joins Big Ten and had to be thinking they were benefiting from the move…
and then got completely shat on by this move.
They ares in debt in their AD and probably would have fired him otherwise. They need Big 10 $. They knew that. They are behind the other 3 additions in pretty much every sort right now minus Women’s basketball, which they are great in.
Big 10 programs teams don’t make more money by firing big time coaches.
That is a drop in the bucket compared to the revenue a team can generate if they are good in the top 2 conferences.
Minnesota…. generates over $70 million in revenue…
before this super conference expansion.
Firing a successful coach to save money when joining a cash cow is the last thing any competent AD would do…
I thought it was late in the game when Harbaugh left, but it is very late in the game for UCLA. This one is going to hurt them, and they are entering a big year for the program.
Wait a minute. Didn’t The Buckeyes just hire Bill O’Brian a few weeks ago for their OC job? WTF?
They should go get Ryan Grubb. He just turned down the Seahawks OC gig so maybe he’s set on coaching the offense at Bama.
Tom Hermann seems like the biggest name and that would make some sense.
He got the HC job at Boston College.
I actually think O’Brien was the better OC for them. I don’t think their fan base liked it too much, but he’s good.
Ahh. Thank you
OSU isn’t messing around this year.
They are definitely out of excuses.
I don’t know, Chip Kelly runs a hell of a college offense. He’ll have the horses at OSU. This seems like a match made in heaven.
He does. I think he will have a prolific offense, but I don’t think Ohio State has an issue with that when it comes to 90% of the conference. They have to be a physical dominating team with a couple teams they will face. I thought O’Brien brought that angle for them.
