I disagree. I think AA is severely underrated by this fan base and i personally always loved Barnes. I get it’s risky to gamble on him as a project but I was willing to take the bet
Barnes himself talked about the light turning on IN camp. Im sorry but you cant pass on a player bc yiu hope a guy going into hia 3rd year turns it on. ROdrigo is bad…he is a ST role player…Jack was a great pick. And once again…Gonzo was not on high on brad’s board…jack was HIGHER…his corners were witherspoon and branch…
Also cool… player of the month…we all.want bigger and better things. He is good. Our guys are good. Ours fit us…jack campbell IS a dan campbell clone…gonzo IS soft.
He’s actually an above average tackler but the primary is he’s straight lockdown. Going as long as he did against Hill with those stats is just kinda crazy for your second game and Hill said as much. Hill said he was a pro bowler at present.
Yup, it is what it is. Gonzalez has off the chart measurables and sometimes that makes you overthink. Told everyone at the time I thought he was great but I’m not management. Irony is Witherspoon actually looks good as well but he’s not lockdown island like Gonzales. On to the next. I trust this staff for once.
I think it’s also a case where Gonzo landed in the best possible situation and scheme. Belichick is the player development master on the defensive side of the ball, and i think he especially excels with defensive backs. And they have clearly schemed in a way where they’ve given him a very narrow set of responsibilities, which is exactly what you want to do with a young player. I’m not convinced that he flashes this way if he landed somewhere else.
Watch the reaction when Gonzalez comes off the board vs every other pick. Banging the table when Gibbs was available, Dans fist pump when Aiden was available. When Gonzalez is drafted, its silence, no celebration. They take a second and then move on business as usual. Not saying they were disappointed with Jack, they obviously liked him, but its pretty obvious he wasnt their first choice.
I’ve moved on because it’s in the past but this opinion is a misconception. Belichick has seen something in this kid because if you watch their games he is scheming Gonzalez to the opponents best WR play after play. It is not some “they are hiding him in their D” kinda thing, it is actually the opposite, they are locking up a section of the field because he is a better athlete than most NFL receivers and that can’t be taught.
Its clear you believe this to be true. There are behind the scenes stuff that you are not aware of that says gonzo was never ever going to be in detroit…but continue w the narrative of “just imagine if we had gotten Gonzo AND Gibbs??”
