College basketball is dead

So Michigan opened their deep pockets for yet another transfer. Yeah it’s annoying that it’s Michigan, but if Tom Izzo or anyone else were buying natties I’d feel the same way. Just absurd. Of course they’ll win it all. Wtf is the point.

Salary cap next?

It’s 2026 right?

New Dusty deal still not top paying deal…

All im saying is they are nowhere near buying Natties, or close to spending as much as others, it’s just working better?

And besides you’re sort of proving my point. I don’t care who is spending what. They’re assembling roster by throwing millions at these players, regardless of the means.

It’s weird to defend this.

It isn’t college basketball. It’s more like … semi pro with college sponsors.

Yes and Michigan still won’t be top 5 more than likely. So if they do go back to back with 10 plus teams spending more- what are we talking about?

Which by the way … glad they’re getting paid, but, I’m out. These kids have zero connection to the schools. Probably not even in a class room. And perhaps that was always the case? Either way, I’m out.

Seems unlikely anyone has the breakdown for players signed in the last month.

I agree on that 100%. Also I’m barely a Walmart Wolverine, and I’m sending my daughter to state in just over a year.

I will also say that the volume from Sparta friends about NiL is much higher now that Michigan won it, and had Izzo won it while spending way more….im not sure they would be complaining as much, or at all.

You can’t buy a Natty!

Future 1st rounder Keelon Russell gave a presentation in my management class last week (along with two other football players.)

Thought everyone should know.

SEC used to be the “dominate powerhouse” in NCAAF. That was because they were paying their players and the other conferences weren’t. Now that they are playing under the same rules, the SEC is no longer dominant.

College basketball is no different.

The reason Michigan wasn’t in the top 10 in spending is that they took players that weren’t household names (and cost less).

Michigan is only 8th in the portal rankings but have the #2 high school recruiting class. So they are kind of doing it both ways. I understand how you feel though. I would feel the same way if I wasn’t a Michigan fan.

A team full of bald guys getting paid 1 mill a season on NIL. Absolutely you can buy a Natty. The Yankees made players shave every day for decades and they bought a few World Series with the approach. Sad history but true.

College sports is semi pro now. Just accept it.

I like NIL in basketball.

Keeps kids in NCAA vs going to G league or Europe. Limits the 1 and done to just the top 5-10 guys. Lets kids stay for 4 years. Elevating the entire game.

Sure the cream is rising to the top.
But it is what it is.

Basketball will be about the top ~48 highest paid schools competing. Everyone else is and always has been and will be canon fodder.

Then between those 48. Who can team build and coach the best.

Michigan built a functional team with a coach that executed those skills. Vs some other teams that just paid the most with no vision or coach to back it

Thats why I am 100% in favor of a 80 team only D1 for football and basketball. Everyone else is FCS
