I think Fitzgerald is a lot better coach than he’s getting credit for. It is not easy to win at Northwestern, but he did. It should be easier for him to win at State. We’ll see how the NIL comes together for him, but he should have an easier time recruiting and working the portal.
I am surprised it came together this quickly. That part probably won’t sit well with a lot of State fans. I’m sure they would have preferred multiple candidates to be interviewed before making a decision.

Penn state has been kicking that can but I don’t sense that he was open to it. I think he’d be a good Pro coach too. But I think he’d be perfectly happy staying. He’s going to be in the playoffs all the time when they next expand. 16 has to be coming soon.
They also have an NIL advantage as rich Mormon boosters don’t spend on vice.

Lane Kiffin destroyed the USC program that Pete Carroll had built within 4 years prior to the NIL / portal era.
I’d never want my program to hire him. Of course, the biggest name my program (Arizona) ever hired was Rich Rod.
I think the USC scandal under Carroll is what destroyed them. Lane wasn’t quite seasoned enough to get over that obstacle
