Commanders promote David Blough to be THEIR OC

Really? I thought it was all fully guaranteed.

That would change things

Can they double dip if they don’t take on another HC job?

Seems like more of them would take time off if this was the case, though I’ll be honest I have no idea. But they usually start to work again pretty quickly, like Saleh, etc…

Basically the verbiage is such that he will make 4.3_M or more next year.

If Team A pays him 2M to coach then the dolphins make up the difference up to the 4.3 M or what ever he was making.

If Team B gives him 6M then the Dolphins are off the hook

Means he can be payed HC money as a Coordinator basically…

I feel like Going OC makes the most sense unless a team is gonna pony up big dollars i guess

There’s a podcast called the Business of Sports. Andrew Brandt a former agent and Packers exec does it and did a whole episode about it.

Apparently Matt Patricia was just a consultant after the Lions fired him because he wanted the Lions to pay him and not the Patriots. As soon as the Lions deal was over he became an official coach

They were all like Blough how you like me NOW

If that’s the case McDaniels should just go fishing for a few years, collect every penny from the Phins and come back in a couple years.

He has the following options:

  1. Take a HC job and attempt to rebuild a team again. If you succeed, you’re right where you want to be, but if you fail, which is more likely, you’re likely done as a HC at this level.

Or…

  1. Take our OC job. Work with arguably the best core of weapons in the league and with a great QB/HC. Operate the league’s best offense, and pick whichever future HC opening you want.

Miami is paying him lol. His contract extension from the dolphins hasn’t even kicked in yet hahah.

And if the Lions are indeed “cheap”, it wouldn’t really matter in this case bc McDaniel is getting paid the rest of his HC salary anyway. God he makes so much sense… I hope I hope I hope :crossed_fingers:

I don’t think Mike McDaniel was successful as a play caller long enough to where I feel comfortable giving him that title.

The ironic thing is a lot is his offensive success and failures match up with the 2025 Lions offensive success and failures.

I don’t think he’s a bad coach but there’s no data supporting he’s a home run

I don’t always agree with Risdon but he’s closer to this stuff than any of us are

So he can or can’t double dip head coach and OC salary? That’s the part I don’t understand.

Can he get 5 mill a year from the Phins and 3 mill a year to be OC from a different team? 8 mill total?

Good for Blough. Washington obviously knows what they have. I think he’s going to do very well.

Would you rather be HC of the Browns for $6 million or OC for the Lions for 4.5?

The logic behind taking our gig is pretty clear, even to people not wearing Honolulu-blue colored shades. But coaches make bad decisions, the pull of being the lead man is strong, and they all have egos and believe they can be the one to turn things around. It is what it is. I hope he applies this level of logic to the decision, but they often don’t.

You’re asking a bunch of Lions fans. I’m sure Browns fans would feel differently.

Based on what? Their injury prone QB? Their aging WRs? Their no name RB room? Their oldest roster in the NFL?

I’m asking to put yourself in MM’s shoes

I think or maybe it’s the difference. Like say he’s making 8 with phins and lions pay him 2 to be OC. Miami would then have to pay him 6 million I think. Honestly not sure.
