Can they double dip if they don’t take on another HC job?
Seems like more of them would take time off if this was the case, though I’ll be honest I have no idea. But they usually start to work again pretty quickly, like Saleh, etc…
There’s a podcast called the Business of Sports. Andrew Brandt a former agent and Packers exec does it and did a whole episode about it.
Apparently Matt Patricia was just a consultant after the Lions fired him because he wanted the Lions to pay him and not the Patriots. As soon as the Lions deal was over he became an official coach
Take a HC job and attempt to rebuild a team again. If you succeed, you’re right where you want to be, but if you fail, which is more likely, you’re likely done as a HC at this level.
Or…
Take our OC job. Work with arguably the best core of weapons in the league and with a great QB/HC. Operate the league’s best offense, and pick whichever future HC opening you want.
And if the Lions are indeed “cheap”, it wouldn’t really matter in this case bc McDaniel is getting paid the rest of his HC salary anyway. God he makes so much sense… I hope I hope I hope
The logic behind taking our gig is pretty clear, even to people not wearing Honolulu-blue colored shades. But coaches make bad decisions, the pull of being the lead man is strong, and they all have egos and believe they can be the one to turn things around. It is what it is. I hope he applies this level of logic to the decision, but they often don’t.
I think or maybe it’s the difference. Like say he’s making 8 with phins and lions pay him 2 to be OC. Miami would then have to pay him 6 million I think. Honestly not sure.
