But coaches make bad decisions, the pull of being the lead man is strong, and they all have egos and believe they can be the one to turn things around. It is what it is.
I hope he can be logical, but the expectation of logic from coaches tends to bite us in the ass.
I think going from one meddling owner to another is a lesson he learned⌠NYG would be my biggest concern, hopefully they land Harbaugh. McDaniel wouldnât fit everywhere either, heâs an âacquired tasteâ if you will, and a team like Baltimore wouldnât hire him⌠At least I donât think they would.
He has to actively seek employment⌠and if offered a jobâŚ
he needs to take it⌠or he doesnât get paid by the Dolphins.
Fatty Cake was able to circumvent the rule because zero teams wanted him other than the Patriots.. so they were able to hire him in that âconsultantâ role that somehow didnât qualify to require a salary âstandard payâ across the NFL.
If MacDaniel takes an OC job⌠he canât be hired for $100 dollars and a 12-pack of tacos. He has to be hired for a reasonable OC salary according to NFL salaries⌠and then the Dolphins owe him the rest of his bag.
In a way⌠if McDaniel doesnât get a really good HC coaching offer (Ravens, Falcons)âŚ.. he is better off taking an OC job⌠getting paid his same salary⌠and then evaluating his options next year.
The Giants want another Tom Coughlan gruff no nonsense type of leader - hence why they hired the likes of Judge and Daboll - canât see the Mara family pivoting to McDaniel when Flores and Harbaugh far more like the fit they want
People on this message board thought Lamar sucked and didnât believe Ben Johnson would be a good head coach. I think the term âgrain of saltâ was made for places like this.
he is contractually obligated to seek any HC or OC job that would offset that amount.
If he gets hired for > $5 million to be HC elsewhere ⌠the Dolphins pay him nothing.
.
If McDaniel doesnât even try to get hired elsewhere in the NFL.. the Dolphins owe him nothing⌠especially since reports already indicate the Lions are interested.
.
If he gets hired to be an OC for $2 million⌠the. the Dolphins would pay $3 million and his new team would pay that $2 million salary.
.
Also.. a new team like the Lions canât pay him $100k and ask the Dolphins to pay $4.9 million.. they have to pay him an âleague standardâ salary for an OC.
Youâre right. But âThe Lions are cheapâ comments or âDan just wants someone he can tell what to doâ comments that donât make any sense would have flown if we did hire him.
McDaniel isnât taking any time off. If he took the next 3 years off his value goes way down in the HC circles. His best bet is either a team he falls in love with to HC, or he takes an OC gig and waits for the right opportunity to present itself.
If he picks option 2 then he wants an offense that he can succeed with, like sayâŚthe Lions!!!
I hadnât seen that⌠but I wouldnât be surprised if a guy worth ~ $17 billion (and growing by the day) like Ross was worried about saving a few million bucks.
Yeah, that last one especially was always nonsense. I also donât think weâre cheap but at least it doesnât come from an illogical place. Rod Wood does kinda suck and took Calvinâs money back. I think Sheilaâs fixed it though, and nothing lately says weâre cheap.
I think their OL is very good too, especially once Cosmi is back to full health. Tunsil was great this year, Coleman and Allegretti are good, and Conerly was pretty good as a rookie too.
