I’m sorry but you’re not going to tell me a triple crown winner and reciever who had almost 2,000 yards and greatest ability is route running. Yet there were 14 recievers better than Kupp in 2021?
Oh I don’t dispute he was a star in 2021, and I admit some of the numbers seem a little off (PFF is renowned from being a little off). But 2021 might as well have been a century ago in WR years, I care more about the 2024 numbers, and those lined up perfectly with what I saw. Especially down the stretch.
And I saw a reciever who had 700 yards in 12 games and three 100 yard games in those 12 and when healthy helped a 2-4 team go 8-2 when returning from his injury. Nobody is saying Kupp is elite. But saying he is one of the worst recievers in the league? Spare me hyperbole.
Regardless, the Lions are a ARSB or Jamo injury away from a possible derailed sesson.
In 2021 the Rams had Kupp, Woods, Van Jefferson, Desean Jackson and OBJ. We made sure we had security. And we won a Superbowl because of it.
I would be all about Kupp being here for depth. But he’s at best a #2 right now. But man if we lose St brown or Jamo for 3-4 games would be nice to have Kupp.
I feel as though I am, you just disagree with me on the level to which Kupp is cooked. Fair enough, we don’t have to agree.
But my main reason for not wanting to add him is fit. He thrives in short-areas but we already have ARSB, LaPorta and Gibbs operating in those areas. Patrick - or any other sacrificial X - is a good fit to run clear-out routes and deep crossers. Otherwise the defense will creep closer to the line and clog the lanes Goff wants to throw in. That is counter-productive for us. For me Kupp only fits on this version of the Lions as a slot WR, which makes him a backup to ARSB.
Obviously peak Kupp is better than current Jamo, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. And what Jamo brings to the offense cannot be understated. Defenses are scared shitless of him. They won’t be scared at all of Kupp at this stage of his career. That’s what I believe anyway, and the PFF and end-of-year numbers back me up. But again it’s fine if you disagree.
The Mathew Stafford + Cooper Kupp chemistry was hall of fame. One of the greatest of all time. Cemented not just with those stats that will be in the record books forever, but also a superbowl win and MVP. That cannot be compared to Jared Goff who did have Kupp in his prime. And it should not be compared. Goff also had major ups and downs with the Rams. Benched early. Benched late. Traded.
I’m not dissing Goff. I love the guy. He is a way better player in detroit than he’s ever been with the Rams. The guy fulfilled his potential here and I love it.
But I’m not saying they wouldn’t have chemistry. They should have great chemistry. Goff and Kupp were still really good. It’s just Matt and Goff where in a different universe.
I would give Kupp 12mil 1 year EASY to be the 3rd WR. I also don’t trust Jamo yet.
He is not coming to Detroit! Brad would be an idiot signing a #3 WR in our offense that is 33 YO and you let your starting Guard walk and Z. Smith walk it makes zero sense.
Wait, what?
At first Brad would be an idiot…but now because Kupp is 2 years younger you “can see it”?
Let’s just say that it’s fine we disagree lol. You think I’m wrong and have the stats to prove it, I think you’re wrong and have the stats to prove it, the world keeps on spinning.
