Once he stops calling those plays where we fumble, I’ll be onboard with the flowers.

And on the 4th down in our own end, Wright was in motion and had backside contain and didn’t even see Nixon and let him stroll on by.

Just mentioned this in the Goff thread

As everyone starts trusting the new guy you can see the comfort level increase that than then becomes a competence increase

It works in training small arms and motorcycles as well as football

  • slow is smooth and smooth become fast (inherently and naturally)

That completion to LaPorta was absolutely bonkers.

we have to get Sam a few more 0portunities.

This is why I like Dan O (I know some on here don’t) but he breaks the plays down and explains exactly why players are motioning or why they are lined up like they are. This was a great breakdown on the Laporta completion and why it worked.

I think we are good on the OC now. Like @DeadDog stated, the players are getting more comfortable with wtih Petzing and what he is trying to do.

Is there room for improvement? Sure, a few plays yesterday I am betting he would like those back to call something different, but overall things are improving as we get further into the season

The Petzing hire wasn’t well received, but Dan nailed that one.

Many OC’s come in and say “This is what we are going to do”. Penzig comes in and says to Goff “what do you like to do”. He spent 3 weeks with Goff learning the terminology. He learned what Goff likes. He learned what works. Goff didn’t have to change any terminology.

Then Penzig puts his little twist on things but it’s mostly just calling the right plays.

Am i doing it right?

If he keeps this up he’s probably gone after next year…..He may even get some looks this year for HC openings

This is exactly what Ben did for Goff as well. He picked Goff’s brain to learn his favorite throws and his comfort zone, then crafted plays that worked to Goff’s strengths. It’s what good coaches do. The rest try to shoe horn players into schemes (cough, cough…Shep).

Shep’s defense is playing a lot better. They still need to add some talent on that side of the ball, but there is progress there.

He was in motion but it didn’t look like he had backside contain it looked like he was lead block on the left Edge

Watching that play over and over it seems like either a play design problem or a blocking assignment problem on the right side.

When Wright goes in motion that side is uncovered because for some reason you’ve got Teslaa lined up blocking straight up and not from the outside doing a chip or Wham block on a defensive end, and predictably he gets trucked, while Miller looks like he was combo blocking down and then came back to Teslaa’s guy too late. The issue is is Teslaa should have been blocking the cornerback who was the one who came around the edge, if Wright is vacating the backside protection of the slow developing play to the left

IF we beat The Vikes, I say give Petzing his props.

I mean I’m not ready to annoint him, but I feel pretty good about the offense. One thing bothering me is that we aren’t great on third and fourth and short (maybe the stats say otherwise just an observation). I feel like we should be better.

I’m pretty sure this is a direct translation of Petzing in German.

Wright still ignores Nixon and lets him right by to make the play.
If Wright even lays a hand on Nixon, the play has a chance of working.
Mahogany pulls to the right, but gets his guy to seal. Wright just follows Mahogany to the right, pushed Mahogany from behind and blocks nobody. Meanwhile, two Packers defenders from the area Wright blocks nobody come in and make the play.

From what I can tell, teams are really selling out to stop the run, at the risk of letting our pass-catchers run free. Granted you’d like to find success anyway, but if there are more guys than you can block, it’s tricky. That said you make it past the first line once and Gibbs houses it.

Yeah, its seems to me that we’re just a block away at times. And with a new coordinator usually the last thing they get good at are the red zone execution and stuff like this. So I do believe we will keep getting better. Both sides of the ball actually..
