Daniel Jeremiahs big board. - Justin Fields stock is dropping

Actually Dual threat means Dual, like run and throw. Fields didn’t put up near the numbers Mahome put up in college (5000 yd season) so I think that comparison is lacking. Wilson is probably the closest I would say from a college standpoint. But again, I thin Justin Fields is an average thrower and average runner in a very good system. Not really exceptional at neither, and IMHO not worth a #7. I would agree his decision making in several games was not good. His field vision I had a hard time judging based on the fact many times his first read was open. Back to my original point, but maybe you saw more than I did in those games.

Ok, so Mahomes is, Patrick Mahomes. The best player in the NFL, who’s taken his team to back to back super bowls with a chance to win back to back super bowls. Mahomes also played against Big 12 defenses and scored 60 every game because he had to. It feels like everyone except for whoever the TCU QB is every year is capable of putting up video game numbers in that conference.

Why are you so obsessed with comparing stats to other players in other systems… Watch the tape man… Fields is a threat to run and is capable of making big gains doing it. He’s just not a Lamar Jackson type runner, psh no one is really

He was also in an extremely high volume offense, in a conference renowned for its bad defense. This is as apples to orange as a comparison can be.

If it’s even sub 4.5 I don’t think he makes it to 7.

OK fine not stats no comparisons.
Is he a better than average passer?
Is he a better than average running QB?

I say no on passer, maybe on the running QB. Is that what we need? Not worth the 7th pick IMO

You got it bro

But… but… Northwestern… and uh… Indiana… and OSU QBs… and uh…

You talking to me? I’m the one that agreed he’s going to drop.

Robert De Niro Quote GIF by Top 100 Movie Quotes of All Time

I think he has above average arm strength, I think he’s accurate in the pocket and on the move, I think he’s got every athletic advantage you could have for the position… He’s above average everywhere, except getting through his progressions and reading the whole field, that’s where he’s going to need a lot of development

I guess they wanted to be sure everyone knew Master Teague was a "blackman."

I LOVE that there are so many solid offensive options this year for teams.

We know at least 2 QBs may go in the top 6 and maybe three QBs go. 2 QBs are likely to go top 2. If the Jets grab Watson they are likely to take a QB at this point still if they get the #2 pick.

So, say 2 QBs go 1 and 2. Then the Dolphins are up and they need a WR and WR is likely value there. Give them a WR. Next up…the Falcons. They could easily go QB as the value is there. They also need an edge rusher pretty bad. They have a new coach and a new coach generally means a new QB. But damned if Matt Ryan didn’t again play pretty well in 2020. Since 2008 Matt Ryan has missed just three NFL games. Amazing. I think they end up going top edge rusher OR QB.

The Bengals are up next and they have to go the top OT, right?

Next, the Eagles. Serious drama there. Their WR position group is bad. Easy to see them going WR at that point. Maybe OT?

Then the Lions are up.

If the Lions want a QB they will likely choose between the #3 and #4 QB.

Lawrence, Wilson, Fields and then Lance? Is that the likely order? If Lawrence and Wilson are both gone I can easily see the Falcons skipping on QB and going edge rusher. And if the Falcosn go edge rusher I see the Bengals and Philly keeping their selections the same and being afraid to drop lower as the top OT and second WR are valuable and two OTs can go before the Bengals are on the board again if they drop down and Philly needs WRs real bad. Just take the #2 WR who is going to be a beast too.

The Lions are likely to choose between Justin Fields and Trey Lance IF they go QB at #7.

Yep and there’s been several of them recently that were very highly hyped up like.

Bobby Hoying, Terrell Pryor, Joe Germaine, Dwayne Haskins and Troy Smith.

None of them were drafted as high as projected and all of them disappointed.

Don’t you remember all the hype surrounding Troy Smith after he won the heisman? I recall the debates about how he was going to set the NFL on fire and break all the record books.

I don’t know what it is about Ohio State QB’s but all of them seem to lack what it takes between the ears.

I was told that when Smith came out that he was going to dispel the myths and prove Ohio state is a QB powerhouse.

I was told when Haskins came out that he would go 1OA and be the best QB in his class. That he was different.

Now I’m told Fields is the exception. I have been told all season by many posters on here that he’s the best QB in this class. Even better than Lawrence.

Maybe he is the exception. Maybe he will break the Ohio state QB jinx. Or maybe he is just the next Ohio state QB to not live up to the hype.

Personally I think it’s highly likely that he’s ends up like the rest.

Saying a QB won’t be good because of the school he went to is just about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Yeah I Agree with you.

People talk about someone’s “stock” is rising or falling. It is a total fallacy.

Most early mock drafts are based on the opinions of internet guys/former GMs and scounts and media type. There isn’t much “real” input as most teams are focused on their next game, not the draft.

Once the season is over, real information starts to come in through “secret sources” but it is still way to early in the process. The “mock drafts” get closer to reality as the draft approaches because more real NFL team sources are added to the mix (with media contacts, off the book info, etc).

I try to ignore most early mocks and pick guys I think will succeed at the next level. In the early mock drafts I get guys in every round that usually end up all being gone by 3rd round because most people follow the internet sites instead of just watching games. Certain guys stand out and others that some have super high I am left scratching my head wondering what they see that I don’t.

The only one of these dudes that is a comparable athlete to Fields is Pryor and before he set football on an NFL field had football character issues.

I need to know what college is generating these good NFL quarterbacks more than once every 20 years.

Or the B1G is not a strong conference.

I think Jeremiah is terrific. BUT those are his personal rankings not where he thinks people will go. IIRC he last had Fields at 7 so he has dropped some. While Fields is my preference after Lawrence I’ll be happy with any of the big four.
