David Montgomery Gone?

The biggest tidbit out of the Brad’s press conference seems to be the fact that there’s a good chance David Montgomery is gone next season.

Brad mentioned something about utilizing him correctly. Our coaching staff didn’t do that this year and it seems that the plan moving forward will be to have Gibbs as the feature back.

I believe it’s a mistake to move on from Montgomery (especially if Gibbs were to be injured) and I’d rather the staff utilize him correctly. I also don’t know if his social media stunt late into the season played into the decision making process but it appears he likely his played last snap for the Lions.

What would be extra frustrating is if he ends up on a contending team and has a career year next year.

Also what would the RB2 (and RB3) plan be with Montgomery gone?

We can find a power back. I will miss Monty but I understand how it might be best for all.

Trade him to NO for Erik McCoy.

I love Montgomery and hope he goes nowhere. With that said, if it does happen, RB is one of the easiest positions to get production from a mid round pick. I also think Vaki could be an option as well

Monty is still a good player. But I think he wants more carries. He’s 29 and wants to be featured more. Hard to blame him. RB’s post 30 are usually cooked

Hard to imagine Vaki’s body holding up at RB. Though the talent is there IMO.

Montgomery is under contract through 2027. I doubt we would cut him. I doubt he has a ton of trade value.

I just do not agree with the idea “they did not use him right”

The IOL stunk and he is best between the tackles.

His production fell off. I know at mid season the carry split was about the same as 2024.

Soooo I mean this is more of a the run game was not as consistent and dominating.

He’s not a featured back. He will find another 1-2 job where he gets 50% of the snaps. Nobody would be content with Monty as their lead back at this stage in his career.

It sounded like to me that the Lions would like to keep him, but will honor his wishes if he wants to go elsewhere. The Jets might be a prime trade partner, especially since Glenn is trying to build a culture and Monty epitomizes grit.

The dude was still running good

Monty back to Chicago imo

$$$ is why he will leave. The lions won’t be able to afford him with other issues they have.

If Brad is feeling Bradley, I could see him trade up and draft Love for a lightning and lightning combo platter.

Fletcher would be a great pick in the 3rd day

Now we just need a 3rd round pick. Edit— I see 3rd day not 3rd rd.

Can’t replace his vision. Monty is one of my favorite signings of all time

Lions going to run Gibbs into the ground. He may get hurt next season

After 7 games…

2024 = Gibbs 43% of carries, Monty 44% of carries

2025 = Gibbs 51% of carries, Monty 38% of carries
