Detroit Tigers

I always really liked Dick Allen. I still remember him as Richie Allen. He was a character. Love his quote about playing on artificial turf. If a horse won’t eat it, I don’t want to play on it. Thanks for jogging my memory bank.

Vernon won a cup with Calgary, right?

He did, 1989-90 season I believe.

88-89 year before. And beat Roy

I had dreams of Gibson catching TDs for the Lions. Team him up with Billy Sims. Gibby would have been so much an MCDC guy!

He beat Roy, nice. I wasn’t a Roy fan, so that warms my heart a little.

Beat him twice if you count the 97 playoffs!

Also won the fight and bloodied him in the infamous March 27th game

So delicious. Hold that glove up with nothing in it, again… We beat his ass for 9 goals while he was with Montreal. His coach wouldn’t pull him and left him out there to take his medicine. Lol. That precipitated his trade to Colorado and then it was really on!

And to be honest, if in Paul Coffey hadn’t put the puck in his own net in that 1996 playoff series, Roy probably gets his ass handed to him then, too…and we go to four straight SCs.

Ugh I forgot about that one… I was not upset to see him and Primeau traded away and get Shanahan. That was the real game changing trade in my opinion. Shanahan changed the dynamic of the team

Joe Carter deserves it IMO

I love Joe Carter. Not gonna placque him though.

He is one if the best big fellas that stole 200+ bases as far as success rate goes. 78% 231 of 297 is impressive. Big arm…not huge arm, but was a plus thrower from the OF. Never a fan of his routes and range though, subpar. Didnt walk much.

Quality run producer, barely missed any games for a long stretch…that turf in Toronto didnt do his knees any favors. Love his big WS moments.

Modern WAR/JAWS etc has him wayyyy down the list in RF due to his negative defense and low on base skills, like 117th, Tom Brunansky and Andre Ethier territory. He is a lot better than those dudes… but 50 slots up its Juan Gonzalez, Shawn Green, David Justice, Roger Maris, Maggs and Tim Salmon. He fits generally there, stat wise. Add the WS for some bump. RF is a bitch of a list…

Eye test he is behind Sheff, who to me is a much closer borderline case. WS brings him up closer to Sheff and maybe even… Close, no ceeegar.

Yes he did… big time.

I was just watching a video about the 97’ team on that YouTube thing… Shanny led a pretty talented team in scoring that year with 87 pts.

A sunny side note for today. Torkelson is definitely finding his swing in AAA so far. After a tough start he’s raised his batting average up almost 100 points and just hit his 3rd home run. Meanwhile Greene continues to impress. Hitting home runs to the opposite field. Love that kid.

Media: Cabrera going to retire and forfeit the $32 million for the last year of his contract.

I thought the Tigers might eat a bunch of his salary and trade him to a team with a chance to win a world series, but didn’t happen. One way or another he’s getting his 32 million next year.

Ahhh, Dontrelle…the forgotten man of that trade, he of the high leg kick…

Willis is a terrific case of why you don’t hand out extremely lengthy contracts. He fell way off the cliff suddenly and for really no reason. Same with Rick ankiel. All stars one minute and the next can’t throw a strike to save their life.

Soto sucks ass. You bring the closer in, in a 0 to 0 game, and he loads the bases and walks in two runs. When are they going to realize that this clown is not a closer?

Another loss, but welcome back Matt Manning.
