Detroit Tigers

That’s way overdue. They should have retired 3 & 1 the second tram and whit retired.

On a positive note: it looks like torkelson is starting to find his swing a bit. Hopefully he keeps it up.

100%. Still don’t understand how Whitaker isn’t in the HOF too

Because baseball is the complete opposite of the nfl. They’ve let some players into the hall of fame that were good or very good but not hall of fame good. Baseball is the exact opposite. There are still a ton of hall of fame caliber players that should be in but aren’t.

I’ve noticed that… the mlb and nhl are kind of weird about it whereas I see the nfl as being more inclusive in that regard. Is it the voters panel? Different standards I’m sure…

I don’t know as much about MLB HOF as I do NHL HOF but one thing that drives me crazy about the NHL is how much they undervalue goaltenders. There are forwards/defenseman who were good but questionable HOF good, and have gotten in, when you have the likes of Mike Vernon and Chris Osgood not in the HOF. And there are many others but being a Detroit fan they come to mind first, and I don’t get it.

Yes, Chris Osgood should be in the HoF…400+ wins, 5 SC appearances, 3 time SC champ, hell, he even has goal as a goalie.

I honestly think Kirk Gibson should be in the Hall of Fame. I know many disagree but Gibby was the man

Gibby was fine, but he’s just not a hall of famer. It’s a tragedy that Whitaker and Freehan haven’t been inducted.

I don’t know about osgood. He was a very good goalie and his numbers look great. Watching him play though I never put him on the same level as brodeur or Roy. That’s my way of asking if a player is hall worthy. Would I put him on the same level as those I know are hall of fame players.

Yup, that’s Chris didn’t seem to pass the eye test, but there is no denying his stats, and his stats at the time of his retirement where right there with the guys that are already in the Hall. Not Roy or Brodeur level for sure, but I think he ranks right there with guys like Belfore, Fuhr, Billy Smith… Ozzy never won a Vezina Trophy and I think that hurts him some.

I agree with that but I also wouldn’t hold that against him. He played with brodeur, hasek, fuhr, and Roy. That’s a tall order getting a vezna trophy with that kind of competition. That’s like holding pro bowls against Stafford playing in the same conference as Rodgers and brees his whole career.

Excellent point.

I also think ozzy gets the Stafford treatment in regards to who he played with as well. They’ll give him less credit for how good he was because he had guys like lidstrom and chelios playing defense in front of him.

There are a lot of shit players in the HoF that Frankie Frisch got in there …9 guys. He ran the Committee with his teammate BIll Terry and two sportswriters that covered the Giants in the 20s and 30s when they played and the Frisch managed Cardinals later…and all his old buddies got in the Hall…dudes who have absolutely no business being in there. Tomato cans.
Lots worse than LaRussa jawboning Harold Baines in, as underserving as he is…these other guys were literally just dudes.

Guys not in the Hall now who should be (that are eligible to be voted on still)? I don’t think it’s a gigantic list…

who else at SS? Hanley? Rollins? Ugh, nope.
3b- Beltre will get voted in as he comes up. Dick Allen probably should be. Maybe Rolen will but I’m meh on him
2b- Grich Whitaker Utley
1b- Nope, I don’t like Helton in there. No one else.
C- Mauer is going in, though he only played 920 games at C…but I get it. Munson has an argument
OF?- LF-Nobody really…Rice was a stretch. CF- Kenny Lofton should be IMO, Beltran was gonna get in, now not so sure BANG BANG…RF- Ichiro will get voted in when he comes up.
P- Billy Wagner should get in a…CC is borderline…

So like 5 guys off the ballot that probably should be in, and a now easy ballot to get in on since a ginat run of 90s/2000s superstars got voted in or PED’d out.

Guys like Bonds/Clemens/McGwire/ARod/Rose/Manny are simply questions of what constitutes a ban regarding PEDs and gambling…obviously they are HoF and all but McGwire Inner circle ones at that.

Current players that are going in or who are tracking at the halfway point of their careers-
Pujols, Miggy, Yadi, Verlander, Scherzer, Kershaw, Arenado, maybe Goldy, Trout, maybe Machado, maybe maybe Altuve, Votto to me is a no but he has his following, Freeman to me is a probably not. Bryce Harper is tracking, Betts is tracking, mostly. Grienke looks like it…he’s compiled his way past Halladay’s#s, who to me is a suspect honoree and a jackass loser…Sale is borderline at best, as is DeGrom…

It looks pretty normal to me…but that’s just me.

Yea he should. And before him should be mike Vernon. Dude won 2 Stanley cups, won the MVP conn smythe in the 97 run… the year the wings broke the curse. All around was a solid if not spectacular goalie. Was he roy or Hasek? No… but, he was still an incredibly strong goalie who played 19 years in the league.

As far as Osgood. Very similar deal although I’d give the tip to Vernon if I had to choose between them. But Osgood too won in 98 and resurrected his career and actually beat out Hasek in 08.

I don’t understand how the NHL determines HOF players but they are two who absolutely have proven their worth as much as any other player in the league and in the HOF

Yeah I know I’m being a homer on that but I do think he should be in the HOF. He has post-season heroics to back that up. But statistically I am not sure he measures up.

I’ve always thought playoff success should be much more important in the hall of fame voting. Regular season is cute, but lets be honest it means very little. Playoff success is when it matters most.

As a Blue Jays fan, Joe Carter isn’t in the hall of fame, the dude hit 400 homers and 1500 RBI’s then hit the biggest homer in Canadian sports history, which walked off the world series championship.

I know it’s still debatable, and not everyone can make the hall. But, the playoffs should have much more importance in the voting across all sports.

Playoff success should absolutely carry some weight. Which is why Mike vernon should be in the HOF (yes I’ve been following the mike Vernon fan club on Twitter)

How Joe Carter is not in the hall as well, considering his significance and production… I mean what are they holding the standards to?

Baseball is a crazy one, they love regular season stats to be a hall of famer, 500 homers, 300 wins, 3000 hits. All guaranteed hall. But, there are so many other variables that make a great baseball player.

Defense for example!
