Detroit Tigers

Kody Clemens is hitting 0.130. Do we owe Roger a favor or something?

Brief blurb from Henning’s article this am on Avila and options.

If his choice is to stay internal, he probably chooses young assistant GM Sam Menzin.

If he goes outside — and, frankly, this organization probably needs an infusion of new blood and thought — there will be no shortage of exceedingly bright people dying to craft a new baseball product in Detroit.

The team has a foundation. It has some building blocks. It has some farm help coming.

But it needs a dynamic new approach to its roster construction.

Too bad Troy Weaver doesn’t know baseball.
The Athletic hit it on the head – the Tigers’ moves indicate a ‘lack of creativity’.

Yea honestly to me pitching isn’t the issue for the club. we’ve had plenty of games with good pitching but no hitting. So you have to swap out the hitting coach, I mean you just have to.

BUT the whole league is having problems hitting. this has to be systemic in the farm clubs and up based on coaches teaching hitting slots for power and home runs because that’s the impetus for players to make money. Honestly how much would a light hitting but high average player get paid? Someone that hits 5-10 HRs a year but has a real shot to hit .330?

Hard to say. So many see the $ and try to trade hits for HR. Ketel Marte?, but he hit 20+ one year, butnhe just got paid and is hitting 270…Nick Madrigal if he could get on the field…Luis Arraez, but he and Madrigal are nowhere close to a FA deal.

That 330 8 hr guy doesnt exist long enough to get a FA deal…

Also, they gotta go outside the system. Thr whole Avila Chadd smell needs to be sanitized here

I mean….at this point you can’t really justify keeping him. He’s had almost a decade and things don’t look much better.

New GM, no more Cabrera?

I don’t understand why a 100 million dollar check is not written to Theo Epstein yet

At this point bring dombrowski back now that you’ve restocked the farm system for him to trade away again. I’m good having the 30th ranked farm system while playing for World Series than having the 4th ranked system and losing 100 games.

Agree 100%. Do not promote from within. They need to bring in new blood and dare I say, change the culture of the front office

1000%. Go out and hire the absolute best you can find. You can promote from within when you have championship winning teams. Promoting from within when you’re a bottom feeder is just going to get you more of the same. Clearly something isn’t working in the front office.

This whole Miggy story leaks BS at every level.

Penny pincher Illitch spends more on Baez and Rodriguez. Why? Because he thinks that they’re going to put more fans in the stands with a better product to balance out the cost.

Well the better product didn’t happen.

So now what? He’s still paying those 2 guys. Everyone has essentially given up on the team this season and given up until Illitch fires his buddy Al, which won’t happen.

“Hey Miggy, I need you to threaten retirement to get people to show up to our games for the rest of the year.” - Illitch probably

This is awfully coincidental timing for this news to be coming out. All I’ll say.

Interesting and don’t disagree. I have zero faith in the Ilitch family and think the descendants running the show now are con artists, including mike’s wife. And mike himself.they have done more harm than good to the city of Detroit and got super lucky by drafting and smuggling in a bunch of unknown Russians who helped them win a Stanley cup. They have done more harm than good for the city

Fetisov…unknown?

Shitty pizza and Miguel Cabrera, Pure Michigan. Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to draw the fans out.

The whole thing about the Russians is really interesting… highly recommend the Keith have books about the Russian 5, and he just came out with Vlad the Impaler which I haven’t read yet…

If Fetisov played in the NHL in his prime he would’ve been Better than Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr…

If they don’t fire Al, it’s time to put the billboards back up on the freeways.
